Quick help with classes and sizes please

Thought i knew all there was to know.............

However after a very close run in an interdiction and consequent blasting and lucky escape i decided to invest in a shield cell

Theres a C4, a B2, a B1 and a B4 i think at my local starport - now naturally i bought the most expensive one, but im beginning to think this might not be the best course of action

I have a cobra mk III - what size shield cell and shield generator should i be looking for

any help gratefully received

The number (class) refers to the size and the letter (rating) to the quality.

So, if you have a class 4 slot, you probably want to buy class 4 parts, this particularly applies to things like your drives and so forth. Fitting a class 2 FSD into a class 4 slot is a bit like fitting a moped engine into a truck. Even an A rating class 2 FSD will not get you far in a Cobra, not even as far as an E4.

Of the choices you listed, the B4 is best, then the C4. The B2 and the B1 should not even be considered as they aren't the correct class for your ship.

Hope that helps.

immensely thankyou - btw, how do i know the cobra is class 4 sized?

On the outfitting screen (regardless if it's the internals or weapons tab) you can see two numbers on each slot - one is the class of the module / weapon installed and the other is the class of the slot. That should tell you all there is to know. Also know that, depending on what actual module you're trying to fit you can sometimes go with a smaller device of higher quality. In case of shield cell banks I THINK it comes down to how many spare cells you can carry (please correct me if I'm wrong), so you might be good with something of lesser value.

It shows 2 numbers, one above the other next to the item in the outfitting screen, so 4 - 4 (4 size shield in a size 4 slot) is what you want, A is best E is worst.

Which one you want depends on what you want to do. An A2 sheild cell gives 5 charges, and is pretty good for light combat. It can also fit into the Cobra's smaller slots. The large ones will give more charges probably, though I don't know how many more, but take up one of the Cobra's size 4 slots. Those size 4 slots are really useful for cargo/actual sheilds, so you may not want to go in quite this deep.
