Quick query about subsurface mining.

Ok, so, I just got into mining properly, until now I'd just been surface mining (as that's what I was used to from before they expanded it). And by god is the crack of blowing up an asteroid satisfying, but...

I was just wondering if the subsurface deposits ever actually run out? Because I shot almost my entire stock of ss missiles at the same deposit and it still hadn't stopped giving out decent amounts of ore. Was this a bug and it was supposed to run out/give less over time, or are those ones infinite?

They're supposed to run out (so if you release at the wrong time you've wasted part of the deposit), although some last longer than others.

If you've found one that's infinite, I'd keep quiet about it ;)

They should run out after you've shot a few SSD missiles into them. Maybe you're missiles aren't hitting the target?

Yeh, mileage varies. But I kind of start to be less inclined to farm one spot after a few goes. You can clearly see the mini game drying the quality up as you go. The only reason I keep going is I just like to get rid of it. At that point I just take the first blue line I can quickly until it goes.

Never had one last for the 60 to 80 stock though...

Side note, wish it warned you it was depleted immediately. The 3s delay is annoying.

Yea, I mean, that's pretty much what I thought, when I found this one I was pretty sure I had used up the ones that came before it. But no, I was definitely hitting material every time. Ended up getting about 15+ tonnes of tritium out of the one deposite before I ran out of missiles (had already used a fair amount by that point). I was hitting blue 2 bar every time.

I'd say that's possible. You probably just hit a wild outlier. I've had some last for ages.

While I'm at it then. Core mining. So I kow how it's supposed to work. Shoot a missile into a crack, weak charges into weak fissures, strong charges into string fissures, etc, until you fill the detonation thing to the blue bit. But So far every time I've done that it's perfect in the blue, not going above, not dipping below, I click to detonate, then when it blows I get a message something like "yield too high lower quality resources" or some such, suggesiting I blew it up too much and now I won't get as much material. What's going wrong?

Any red specks and it's toast. Keep it in the blue. Use medium to light charges in all cases. Don't use high. Works for me

Yea, cheers, had red a couple times, and those times I expect lesser results, but it keeps saying it even when I get perfect blue. I'll try with medium/low only and see how I fare.

Think that's a bug. See how many chunks come out - it's not correlated with that message appearing (assuming you are in the blue).

It's not weak into weak etc., putting a high yield charge into a low strength fissure just boosts the bar more so you need fewer charges, with the high strength ones being best for fine tuning (not that I've ever prioritised the order beyond whichever's the next closest, only avoiding low strength ones if I'm only just below the line).

Oh, right, thanks for the info. :)

If you have 2 low cracks - use full charge on those bring close to the line and a quick one or 2 low charge on the high cracks should do it.
It always says too much when it explodes - should give 12 or so bits.
