Horizons Quick question about a Kill Skimmers missions.

Hi Folks,

I need a little help from the 'Collective'.

I've got a mission to wipe out eight skimmers, hanging around a ++ base. I went in guns blazing, got 4 of them but for the life of me can't find any more. I've tried hacking the Data Points, taking out the power generators and hacking some of the hubs but those other four skimmers have not spawned. There appears to be a door/gate in the main part of the base but no matter what I hit it doesn't open.

Is it a case of log out and back in so the base 'resets'?

Skimmers in POIs in the vicinity of the base count too, in fact that's how I usually do these missions. The vicinity appears to be quite a distance - 30 or even 40km away. And you get to grab a load of legal salvage from the crash sites they're guarding too :)

I rarely attack the base itself, instead, I hunt out POI's nearby and only take out the wanted skimmers... Which can sometimes take a very long time to complete the mission. I seems like on some planets the clean skimmers and POIs that don't have skimmers seem to be very prevalent, not sure why. It seems like the state (war, boom, ect...) has an influence on the amount wanted skimmers that are around.

I'm also getting tired of driving the SRV on icy planets... It gets to be a real pain in the butt with all the slipping and sliding that seems worse after the 2.2 update, so much so that there are mission locations that I avoid entirely because of the control issues. Icy planets are really bad, I get a headache when I'm at those locations and they really screw with my carpal tunnel issues. Another issue that I see since the last update is the amount system and federal security ships that are near POIs. About a third of the time they are sitting in the POI very near the POI itself. I've actually had a system security ship fire on me after I took out the WANTED skimmers while was picking up the cargo. I wasn't wanted and was friendly with the local faction. I fired the SRV's gun away from the ship so I couldn't have hit it, but it was very close to the site.

I just wish FD would let us find the POIs by flying instead of driving or at least let us target the skimmers with the fighters, it would make it so much more fun.

No need to re-log. I found I could do this mission if I flew away from the planet. When I came back more skimmers were there ready to kill.

It's possible you don't have to go that far. Perhaps try beyond about 10 km.

But maybe the leave planet/ orbital cruise/glide/ etc. process is necessary to reset the process.

But there are the alternatives suggested above, too. :)

Just re-log and skimmers will be back at the base. This is the fastest way and the most enjoyable if you're just doing these missions for the credits. Flying 30km to find some more skimmers takes a lot of time...

I have tried re-logging to get a skimmer re-spawn but no dice. The POI was gone also.
