Quick question about the min specs

I'm currently using a Sapphire R9 390 Nitro 8GB GPU and was wondering if anybody had any experience trying VR with it? I know it's a bit under the minimum for Elite using the Vive, but how about the Rift? Anybody know if there's a chance it could be playable or an outright no go?

Edit: Just to widen the scope of the question a bit, because asking for experience with the exact model of card limits things a lot, I got a fidelity score of 7.8 on the Steam test, so if anybody else had a score in and around that how are things going in Elite for you?

I played elite on a gtx670/ cv1 for a while and it was actually pretty good on medium settings. totally playable . things have only gotten easier to render so I'd say you're in a good place to start.

I don't have the 390 but have the 390X (MSI model which can be clocked between 1050 and 1100). The card is working hard when landed on planetary ports especially when in the hanger. I've seen the temp reach 84 (so I turn my case fans up to 90% in the summer). No issues in space. My graphics settings are essentially VR High with a couple of settings turned down. Sometimes I play with the pixel density set to 1.5 with SS turned <1. No issues with frame rate most of the time and ATW works wonders. It can even manage PD of 2.0 if I turn all the settings down. I'd say you'd be "OK" on somewhere between VR Low and VR High. Just set expectations accordingly i.e. don't expect it to look like Ultra on a 4k monitor :) Maintaining close to 90FPS is more important to avoid nausea especially in the SRV.

Yup, don't expect the CV1 or any other 1st Gen hardware to even come close to the resolution of a 4K Ultra monitor setup with any current hardware configuration, but you can always get a faster card to bump up your graphics settings if you can afford better visuals.

The scale and immersion with VR will still blow your mind. Resolution is nice but it's not the only measure of enjoying ED or any other experience.

Yea, I understand it would be a step down in resolution and outright graphics sense, but I was just curious if my card would be able to provide something that looked "good" although opinions can vary wildly on what that is. I'd definitely be willing to sacrifice a crisp image for that sort of immersion, though I'd still want something that looked reasonable without causing nausea obviously.
