Quick question from a newb

Hi, I've just started, racked up 3 kills woo. Sorry I'm sure this question is obvious but I may be missing something.

I'm travelling to the inner systems of the federation, so to make some cash on the way I accepted a mission to kill two pirates 3 jumps away en route to my destination. So I've killed the Pirates, docked at the nearest station, but I can't seem to conclude the mission.

I don't have to travel back to the station that I accepted the mission from do I?

If you're delivering cargo that they give you, then you don't have to go back. Otherwise, if you want to get paid, you need to go back to the people who hired you and tell them the job's done.

This game is all about traveling around and exploring the galaxy.

It not smart to go to the core systems, that were the scum of the universe hang out and they will not give a second thought about blowing you out of space, Even if you are in a sidewinder. and that what makes this game so fun. Ionically it much safer for new players to stay out on the fringe of human space where you are less likely to encounter human players. Not that NPC are much safer nowadays.

Thank you for the feedback people, i thought I was in the wrong menu or something, it helps clear it up.

Btw I do like travelling in space. That's why I bought a space game... The reason I accepted the mission is because it was on the way to my destination, it was convenient, two birds with one stone and all that. Though it seems I will have to double back to collect the reward.

Thanks again

Yes you do. The mission you accepted was from a specific group that live at that station. It must be returned to them. Hope this helps.

Just wanted to add this information.

Each station is owned by a group. When you trade items or exploration data you gain rep with the guys who own the station. Who ever owns the biggest and most important station in the system will end up (sometimes takes a couple of days) owning that system. There can be up to 5 Factions fighting for control over a system. Factions can die off and be created. Factions can be helped by doing missions. It doesn't just increase how they feel about you (reputation) but there influence in the system. These factions can expand past there starting system into other areas. These factions can make new space stations in unoccupied space (has happened at least once before). These factions can become major leaders and be promoted to Power Play (has not happened yet, and I stress yet).

Thank you, appreciate the information. As a new player entering the world of elite, you feel overwhelmed by all the information (which is a very good thing!), and you really get the impression that there is lots going on in the universe
