Quick question hopefully

I'm currently a £55 backer which gives me the following (no longer available as I understand it) :-

Independent Trader
  • Independent Trader: Have the option to start in the Lave system with a basic Cobra Mk III and only 100 CR.
  • Participate in the second round private beta test.
  • Download a digital copy of the “Elite: Dangerous” music.
  • Pirate: Have the option to start in an anarchic Frontier system with a stolen but upgraded Cobra Mk III and only 100 CR (randomised system choice for multiplayer reasons).
  • Your name forms part of the naming database (so your name will be one of those used randomly for non-player in-game characters).
  • Federal Trader: Have the option to start in a Federal border system with a basic Cobra Mk III loaded with cargo worth 1,000 CR and 1,000 CR in cash (randomised system choice for multiplayer reasons).
  • Download a digital copy of the official sequel to “The Dark Wheel” novel.
  • Imperial Bounty Hunter: Have the option to start in an Imperial Colony with an Imperial Eagle Mk II Fighter with upgraded weapons and shields and 1,000 CR (randomised start system choice for multiplayer reasons).
  • Receive a digital copy of the game and 500 credits when starting a new game.
  • Reserve your Commander name in the game (first come, first served, except Jameson).
  • Receive the digital newsletter and progress updates.
  • Be an Elite supporter, and get a digital code when the game is released to apply a transferrable decal to your ship, unique to you, the game’s backers.

Which is great and everything, but now I'd like to contribute a bit more and move up to Premium Beta access (about £100). I can't seem to do so?

I was hoping to see a discount to upgrade, similar to Alpha access available. Any plans to do so?

Hello there

Frontier have only announced a Jonty of pledge to Alpha at the moment. I think it's not unreasonable to assume that as and when beta drops another announcement will be made allowing what you are after.

I may be wrong on this, but can't you purchase the premium beta and then when you get to check-out, you see the total minus what you've paid (£55)?

The discounting you describe is only for buying the Alpha, not either of the Beta products right now.

As others have pointed out, when Alpha is over, they might discount Beta based on previous purchases, but FD will make that clear in due course if they want to offer that.

I'd wait for an upgrade to beta 1 offer to pop up. Alternatively you could buy a second account and infect someone unlikely to purchase ED otherwise ;) Or buy the expansion pass.

I'm personally counting on this. I can't afford to upgrade to Alpha, but maybe I could do premium or regular beta if and when there's an upgrade option.

I would be amazed if FD don't offer this in the reasonably near future.

Hopefully, the wording will be clearer than the last Alpha upgrade 'offer', and we won't have loads of threads with people moaning about it all.

I'm an eternal optimist! :D

One possibility is (and I'm in the same boat wanting this very same credit/discount/upgrade for my backed reg. beta account) that FD did not offer it until about a month into Alpha (mid-Jan). Whether by design or just happenstance has never been declared (that I know of) so I'm not of the mind that it would be unthinkable for FD to do the same with Premium Beta discount/credit/upgrade. Sorry but I find it difficult to call balance paid as being a discount rather than a credit (for existing purchase) as it is somewhat misleading that you get it for less than others have paid. But I'm an old git when it comes to certain terminology, just ignore me.

The Idea that you would need to pay another 100 after already paying 55 is very silly.

I'd email support, and let them help you; don't wait as there were plenty of beta backers.

Don't be sorry for being correct. But if you notice there is ambiguity when using discount as a verb and then obtusely refer to that action using the noun form.

i.e.

Offering a discount - a reduction in cost

Cost of X is discounted by previous payment - no reduction in cost but discounting in action.

Could someone find me the whip and the dead horse?
