Quick question regarding STEAM and VR and Elite Dangerous

Hello,

is it possible to use the regular (Frontier Launcher) version of Elite Dangerous in VR, specifically with the Pimax 5k without getting the game from STEAM?

I don't want to activate my key in STEAM as I heard that this will cost Frontier 60% of the price - and I being there from presale don't want them to pay more to STEAM than what I paid them.

Yes. I've always used the frontier launcher. You may have to launch Steam VR first but if you don't, I think if Elite is set up for VR it is launched anyway.
I've been using Vive for around a year.

Ok, thank you! So how do I get it to run then? My game doesn't recognize the HMD. It's still showing the Pimax environment.

Or do I need to get into the Steam VR environment first?

Have you used any Steam VR content prior to this? It may not be installed (it isn't by default).

I use a Rift on my PC and WMR on my laptop and both invoke SteamVR from the Frontier launcher, so it should do that automatically.

I have installed SteamVR from the store. So it is there. I can enter that demo room (where it says press y on the controller, which I don't have).
That's all I can do right now. Think I'm going to by Virtual Desktop.

Choose one of the HMD alternatives as 3D option, in the game's graphics settings.

Yes, and/or download EDProfiler as you can tweak the 3D options really nicely in there and set profiles up (i.e 2D, VR etc). I use that as I regularly swap between 2D and VR.
