Quick question - S171

Can anyone tell me what minimum jump range I'll need to get to S171? The last four times I've been near it I've been in a Python, Vulture, Cobra and Courier and never had enough reach to get there, it's bugging me and I'm going back out that way when I return from my current trip. :)

It's the big clump of bright stars that's "southeast" of Sol - an association of OB stars in Cepheus (there's a few, think it's Cep OB 4?) - if you head out past Sothis it starts getting very obvious in the sky. Every time I've gone near it I haven't been able to plot a course there and it looks like a cool place to visit.

I usually explore in ships with fairly short jump range, and this is one of the big drawbacks, I'm always seeing things I can't get to.

I went there in my Cobra. The trick is to come up from underneath and when you're within about 200LY, start plotting short distances.

Ah S171, the coolest area I've explored in game yet. Chock full of black holes and big bright blue stars. :)

I was in my Asp when I went there, and even with the ~32LY jump range I had on it, it still got a bit tricky as I got closer and the stars became more and more sparse. I had to make several short jumps in the wrong direction to finally get an approach vector that would get me there. Well worth it though.

I have some nice screenshots of the expedition but they seem to be too big to upload. :(

Thanks guys, I'm on my way home to fit out a new ship some time in the next couple of days, should end up with a jump range midway between Cobra and Asp so hopefully that will suffice.

Seconded, twenty-something should be enough of a jump distance. The route calculator gets in trouble around there, though. I remember having to manually plot some jumps with Asp.
