Quick question: Will combat bonds increase my Imperial rank?

Trying to rank up for the Cutter. Will turning in combat bonds (obtained from a conflict zone) to an Empire contact increase my Imperial rank?

Anything that increases reputation with an empire alligned faction will help progress your imperial rank. Turning in combat bonds belonging to an imperial faction will help progress your rank.

EDIT: just keep in mind once you reach 100% you'll have to scour the mission boards for a mission that'll actually progress your rank.

Ranking up in the military from combat? That would be ludicrous.

Enjoy your military career as an ImpEx delivery boy for civilian factions.

Unless they changed something, combat bonds will only boost your faction reputation and Pilot Federation combat rank. It will not boost your faction Rank level for promotions unless you combine it with missions (which is where the increase will come from.)

That's how I've always seen it but can't confirm for sure. Missions are definitely the best way to go though.

No that I am aware of.

Combat Bonds should only help influence and your reputation with the affiliated faction.

Missions for that faction - such as massacre missions - can increase your rank with the affiliated superpower, just as any other mission.

Imperial reputation and Imperial Navy rank are two separate things.

Turning in combat bonds and bounties will help increase your reputation.
Turning in missions for Imperial minor factions will increase your Navy rank.

Turning in a combat zone MISSION will increase your navy rank — the individual bonds in the contact menu will NOT.

So it does work?
Major faction ranking is all about missions. So missions offer a little progress and some offer a lot. Which do what, is a major subject of debate. Donation/charity missions in my opinion, are the best for raising rank; but the cost of each mission makes little difference. Donating 25000 credits is just as good as donation 250000 credits, so if funds are tight for you, you don't have to strip out your bank account to make them happy. However; the higher your rank and bank account; the larger they seem to demand. The power of all the other missions towards your major faction rank; I believe, is more down to system status and what is going on at the time.

One more thing. When you reach 100% of one rank you will soon be offered a 'promotion mission'. These show what rank is being offered etc. in the mission briefing; but you don't have to take the first one being offered. If you don't like it, or it is not what you would normally be doing; just ignore it and other types of rank promotion missions will turn up. Any other missions you do before the promotion mission, will simply add toward the progression of the next rank.

A general rule of thumb if you want to understand how long or how much work you need to do between ranks. If it took 10 missions to get from rank one to rank two, it will take (approximately) 20 missions to get to rank three and then 40 to get to rank four. I always just double the work required to get to the next rank.

Nope. You have to do the mission grind like everyone else.

I'm glad we seem to have reached a consensus. [up]

I don't really need Juri Ishmaak's engineering skills for anything but I was thinking that harvesting CZs might be a good way to kill 2 birds with one stone by ranking up with the fed's and getting him his Cr1m of combat bonds while I'm at it.

Back to delivering the mail, I guess. :D

A long time ago I had a member of support staff actually tell me otherwise...I'll chalk it up to miscommunication or incompetence rather than malice but he sent me down the wrong rabbit hole that week... I was pretty specific with the question so I don't know what to think. But yeah turns out it is missions only! You shall suffer like the rest of us.

Hand in a few combat bonds and the mission board should spurn the relative missions.
