I strongly feel the needs for a quick route plot system. Sometime, I just want to type the name of the system a let the computer (route planner) do the task, without have to enter the galaxy map.
If we have a quick keybinding, or a button next/down to galaxy map in the navigation panel, a new overlay could open in front of the canopy with just a simple text field. You can enter the name of the system, accept this, and the computer will auto-calculate a route according to your predefined settings in Galaxy Map (Fast/Economy). If you want more granular filter, you have to use Galaxy Map.
Another feature I miss is the possibility to select to display the nearest stars OR the farther stars in the Navigation Panel, under target. It could act as a filter. So, If I have a ship with very high jump range, and I want to manually trace a route, I can just open the navigation panel, go to the target list and choose one of the systems which fit the direction I want (which I have to figure out, of course...).
