Quick thought about Fleet Carriers....

How about organising some kind of system that'd easily allow people to identify FCs that offer services such as refuelling, rearming, a shipyard, trade etc?

Seems like the vast majority of FCs don't even allow docking (which is, of course, at the owner's discretion) but that means we don't bother to try and make use of the services available... because they usually aren't available.

I'm thinking we could start using some kind of simple system that displays services within an FC's name.

So, something like:-

F - Fuel.
R - Rearming.
S - Shipyard.
T - Trading.

My FC is the Starfall so I might name it "Starfall [F/R/S]" - indicating that it IS available for landing and offers fuel, rearming and a shipyard.

I'm totally open to changing/adding stuff but it needs to be simple to display it within an FC's name so it can be seen at a glance, from the Nav HUD, without having to faff around in the sysmap.
Ideally, of course, FDev could add little icons that'd be displayed next to an FC's name but, in the absence of that, it'd be nice if we could sort something out for ourselves.

Thoughts?

+EDIT+

Oh, and if somebody's already organised something like this, that's great.
Let me know how it works and I'm there.

My first thought is that the game already provides this info, and the problem (such as it is) is with the way it is presented for you.

I agree some icons would be the way to do it, but the system map is already pretty cluttered when several carriers are present orbiting a body so there's probably going to be some compromise somewhere anyway.

Something simple like a (very) few different colours of carrier icon showing whether you have docking permission or not & maybe some other high priority info similar to what you describe could help clarify a bit maybe.

This could be added to the NAV panel for EDO DLC users ...
Unlandable FC already have a big red bar on them to show you can't access them so the nav panel could extend a short code after the name for features... and then when youclick on the FC it could have a Duplicate of the System map FC features supported
Inara third party site does allow you to see the feature set of the carrier IF they allow it to be public and thats the issue owner had to make the features public or you cant...

I've always thought a good start would be a filter option to hide Carriers you can't land on, or just outright hide them by default.

Each of these icons is a symbol of which service is applied to the carrier... once learned you know which has not got a ship yard and who has..
You can still click to expand to get more data as you should do on the nav panel...

Seems that slashes and brackets are redundant, they eat space, just FSR would be enough.

I think it's disgusting to use workarounds to compensate absent game features.
If FC allows docking than its services should be visible.
Another point is :from my experience all FCs I've seen which allow to dock had all required for me services so not sure if flooding my navigation panel is required.

Well, that was something else I was thinking about too.

If an FC doesn't allow landing, it's no use to anybody else so it might as well be hidden in the maps.
I guess they couldn't hide them completely, though, cos then you'd end up with people wailing that "there's only 4 FCs in this system but the game won't let me move my FC there!!!"

I'm thinking that, perhaps, private FCs could be "greyed out" in the sysmap and omitted from the Nav-HUD.

Everything related to displaying info' about FCs needs streamlining an polishing, though.

Agreed. The Galaxy & System map views for jumping the FC should display the # of Carriers out of how many slots are available per body/system.
