Quicker to walk than hyperspace now!

My money would be on this...its on sale right now on Steam for 15 bucks...if you google Twitch and Elite, you will see a very large page of Elite streamers...a good portion , new players...and im assuming they took advantage of the Steam sale.
If Twitch feeds reflects this increase in streamers...Im sure its the same for non streamers...
Im thinking FD didnt predict the load this would put on their servers...

For all we complain about ED being buggy and incomplete, for £10 it's well worth having. Even if you only play it a bit, it's good value.
Once they buy a few more mice to power the servers that is :D
I think FD are using it to pull people in and make them want to buy Horizons.

Yes solo should be fine, you only need the servers to record your stats.

I'm blaming the Black Friday offer, the poor servers don't know what hit them. :)

Steam charts only track steam players - but still you can see the MASSIVE increase in players since the sale:
http://steamcharts.com/app/359320

Prior to the sale you have peak of around ~4000 concurrent players - right now we are at an all time peak 17,500. I'd imagine they should have rented another server for a couple of weeks.....

Well for England I believe I connect to an Amazon server in Ireland. It will be their cloud solution I guess. FD may need to increase the number of server instances they pay for. Looks like they failed to anticipate holidays and loads of new steam users.

Yes, it's a peer to peer client server collision bottleneck in the IPv6 gateway WAN firewall packet. You can fix it by hitting your monitor with a hammer.

<edit> Oops. Forgot to mention xbox. </edit>

Nothing to blame here except FDev as they need to scale the servers they rent/lease to take the load. They made the call to design the game the way it is with dependencies on servers, and to not support an offline mode. This is what happens when single players want to play. And it will get worse as the player base increases unless they react. There is a holiday surge but it didn't happen in the past 24hrs alone; it's happened over the past few days. Suspect other issues are occurring as we've seen this Sunday night thing before.

As far as the Steam volume of players (as any sort of metric of success or popularity) it may help to calibrate one's opinion on "lots" and "many". Take Fallout 4 which has roughly 482,000 players online at one time peak in the past 30 days vs. Elite which had just 18,000. Daily averages are 231,000 for Fallout vs. Elite at 3,970. And the trend is showing a drop-off of the daily averages steadily declining since September. There is currently a spike for Elite but lets see how long this lasts.

Yeah, I alt-tab to internet, then quickly jump back to steer away from the sun, once the game loads back up. It is already lengthening my trading runs.

No need to do that. Once the timer starts, just throttle to zero. That way when you exit hyperspace, you'll be at a full "stop" (the supercruise equivalent).

Solo is definitely better for the time being. Especially if you are desperately jumping back from Sag A* in time to buy an SRV (like me) :)
