Quickest way I find to level up in Empire and Fed.

1. Get Asp.
2. Outfit for trade, but with enough firepower to take out NPC large ships.
3. Find a station with as many of minor factions that is associated with the main faction you want to rank up in (a good system is one with 3 minor factions or more).
4. Go to Bullentin Board and take all Deliveries and commodity obtaining missions for those factions. I would AVOID the combat missions, takes too long.
5. Log out of whatever mode you are in (ie Solo vs Open vs Private) and go to main menu. Log back into game in another mode. New missions should now appear.
6. Rinse and repeat till you get about 7-10 missions.
7. Go do them all in one round and then return and turn them all in.
8. Rinse and repeat as necessary, but I find that usually you get a rank up mission with each "rounds" of missions you do, just have to refresh the Bullentin Board after turning them all in.

Hope this helps.

I have been avoiding doing any missions. All of what we have now are just place holders. I'd rather rank up with a proper mission system in place. I'm really hoping Powerplay brings that :)

I take your point, and I hope you're right about Powerplay - I would love to think that I could earn a peek at the cogs of power in the galaxy, and the intrigue and secrecy there in by climbing my way up the mission ranks - but, the existing missions seem to me to be broadly similar to the ones in Frontier: Elite 2, so I think "place holders" is a bit harsh.

I wish we had at least the same missions that Frontier: Elite 2 had. To get back to that level, we are still missing:

- Passenger Transport Missions
- Escort of "wanted" passenger
- Take pictures of enemy installation on planet
- Bomb enemy installation on planet

Not sure if I forgot something, it has been about 20 years since I played F:E2
