General / Off-Topic Quitting Smoking Diary

Quitting Smoking Day 1: Not killed wife. Consider progress to be quite good. Did storm out because she dusted close to where I was sitting which was intolerable. Yelled because she stood on chair to dust which made me very nervous, cos she might have fallen off.

Yeah, I gave up 10 years ago now and there are days I still crave a ciggy - after the first couple of weeks it is habit that is your worst enemy...

Good luck with it and keep it up as Bruce said....

I can't quit smoking... im one of 'those' ppl that never started... sometimes I get quitting envy... should I start just so I can quit and get all the attention??
Get an excuse to fly off the handle?

Im just not that good at starting things in order to quit them, ach Im just gonna give up on that idea..

I'm an idiot who started late in life, I managed to get through highschool and uni without smoking. Then I almost married a woman who smoked...

Well if you need to let it out and get a rant off your your nicotine stained nipples... FIRE AT WILL..

I am here to facilitate your ill will and put that frown upside down!!

Last time I smoked it was because I'd ended up as part of Sunday lunch again.

In fairness, I probably shouldn't have followed the trail of bread. I just can't resist it.

get high dosage patches, they do work, started after xmas but had a relapse, probably because I felt that after 3 days I didn't need them anymore, but they do work and will be starting again, hopefully I will give up before the end of the summer.

How to turn tobacco into a high end gaming PC (you'll need to be a smoker for this)

I've been a non-smoker for 84 days now. Using patches supplemented with gum has made quitting very easy.
I used my last patch today so will have to wean myself off of the gum, which I'm confident about because I feel like I went through the turning point weeks ago.

Now what to do with the money I have saved...:D

I've tried patches, gum et al before. From what I understand the only surefire way of quitting is to succesfully deal with lack of nicotine for about a week, along with dealing with the psychological dependency and the first three days of being nicotine free are the worst.

Day 2: Pretty bad.

Keep going!

It took me 10 years of repeated attempts to actually do it (even now I have lapses after too much to drink  )

I finally gave up because I didn't like it anymore. Also, my wife's Grandad died of lung cancer too and she constantly guilt tripped me.

Don't give just coz of a few lapses. I stopped 2 years ago and still miss it. I used the mints to break the habit which was great. It took me a year and a half to stop using the mints, but they were easier to kick than the s. But whatever works is good

As a lifelong non-smoker, I admit I don't know what it's like to be addicted to the things, but I admire anyone who attempts to quit smoking.

Many say don't give up, but I say GIVE UP, QUIT ... that's the whole idea.
Keep going you are doing well.

I stopped since 6 years. Before I was smoking 25 cigarettes per day on average.
I stopped overnight. Without gum, without patch, without drugs. I just read a small paperback. The author? Allen Carr.

And also much sport and sauna / hammam.

30 minutes after having smoked a cigarette, the body has eliminated all the nicotine. After it is only psychological.

Actually it's 3 days for the withdrawal symptoms. And yeah no patch, no gum, no nothing.

Quitting Smoking Day 2: Wife still lives. Has realised she cannot win. If she tries to cheer me up or be close to me in any way, her head is bitten off (figuratively, otherwise she wouldn't still be alive) and I say things like: just.... don't.... If she tries her best to ignore me I growl and say: You're just not very supportive are you? In a sarcastic tone. Well laugh about this next week. Maybe. Asssuming she hasn't put in a for a divorce by then.

I'm one of those people who have given up the cancer inducing weed, but now I use the electronic version. It's probably as near to giving up as I'll ever get so enormous respect to you Jeff for going the whole hog!

Keep it up! :)

Strength and will, for you Jeff. The output of hell is the great reward.

My dad quit smoking 1997. He had a laryngectomy due to cancer.. He has no voice box but can still talk. by using burping sounds.

So the question is. Do you want to quit now and have a real voice or do you want to wait until you get cancer neck and risk your life under the knife and have your voice change forever.

I know some of you might go it will never happen to me. But at one time that what my dad was thinking.
