Engineers Qwent and Palin!!!

I decided yesterday that it was about time to experience these mega dirty drives I keep reading about.

Need to unlock Marco Qwent first, then Palin..... I read some horror stories but it's what I've decided to do, so I'm doing it.

Within an hours play I have the 25 Modular Terminals needed for the first part and head to Qwent to buy some needless crap from him.

Get an invite from Palin.

Head to crash site and get the Unknown Fragments. Head to Palin and hand them over.

Within 2-3 hours play (most of which is taken up with jumping my slow*** Clipper with it's 23 ly jump range) I had gone from neither engineer open to having G4 Dirty Drives (missing 1 thing for a G5 roll, and really dont care) and loving the 550ms boost speed :)

What grind? [haha]

You must have already had the Sirius permit and have travelled more than 5,000 LY from your starting location....

Got the Sirius permit a looooong time ago and covered the travel with a 19 month trip to Sag A* :)

Basically just playing the game :)

Though I will concede it probably took a few more hours to get into Sirius the first time.

Well done Lunchmoney, I need to crack the 5k travel thing to open up Palin.......& I'm putting it off as it's the type of thing I'm not keen on doing.
I know I'm going to have to get it done as want those G5 thrusters!

Kit out a DBX, as 5k Ly is only around 3 hours (there and back; you actually travel 10k) when you have 50Ly range. Of course, if you find a couple of neutron stars, you can probably do it a little quicker

The only part of the unlock that took me a little time was the Sirius permit - everything else I'd already got through my normal gameplay. I've still got some engineers to unlock, though, as I haven't got round to much mining as yet.

Well done CMDR. I'm content with my G3 DDs from Farseer for the time being, but I'm sure I'll do this at some point. I have a DBX with a 50LY range, and it's not even really an explorer build at the moment so I could get that higher. So the 5000LY shouldn't be too hard anyway. Glad to hear the Modular Terminals and Unknown Fragments aspects weren't too taxing.

Modular terminals used to be a lot harder to get.

If you tried doing it back in the old days, when Mod. terminals were rare, there were no crash sites, and you hadn't been 5kly from the bubble, you'd be looking at 20+ hours

It was the MTs that surprised me. Everywhere I read said they were a pain to get. But once I started paying attention to the mission rewards they almost fell into my lap. I have to wonder if I've had lots before and just sold them without thinking.

Has the reward rate been upped? Maybe?

Thanks Cmdr Crank Larson, good advice.
The DBX is a good call, also had an idea of taking my Orca on a passenger mission(as near 5k as I can get) & make a few mill on the side.
Fortunately already got the Sirius permit, so the next hurdle would be the alien fragments for Palin.
Really want those G5 thrusters.....so the more I put this off, the more pressing it feels.
Thanks again Cmdr o7 :D

They made it easier. And rightly so. Qwent was massively frustrating.

Best to get the Sirius permit is to sell exploration data. Did that on Friday and data worth 10 Mio. Cr got me from cordial to allied in one go (cordial because I sold minor exploration data before though, maybe about 500k Cr). Works even in Lockdown... :D So much für that ... :p
Got the permit "mission" after two board switches and the engineer access mission took me to Lung where I got 2 MT Missions instantly and a third one in one of the target systems. Second half on Saturday, another 16 MTs from missions, some minor engineering to rank up and Mr. Qwent was done

Oh yeah, laugh it up now....but know this....the RNG grind is patiently biding its time, my friend! & when you least expect it, BOOM!

...or more accurately, YAWN!

Rep, OP. I had the same experience.

Engineers came when I was double Elite and working on my third. So a lot of requirements were already there and the rest was a breeze. A friend of mine started Elite then - for him it was a different story.
