If he was using the previous exploits of flying through the hole in the station to shoot players or using a missile to set off a pd in a station or anything similar then I agree he shouldn't have won. In this instance he used the then current game mechanics to achieve a goal. The cmdr who made Elite in trading could well have used early rare trading or seeking luxuries to get to elite and as they were game mechanics at the time of the competition, whilst some might class them as exploits there were perfectly valid ways of playing the game.
The only difference is the player who got Elite in combat detailed how he did it, if he hadn't noone would have cared.
Quit ragging on a player who earned his title and was honest about how he earned it. If there is a problem it's on fd's end for not finding these "exploits" before the competition and not the player who used them.
