Sigh... on the one hand, yes... on the other, how many of these individual animal threads do we really need?

I must say, having both the Raccoon and the Raccoon Dog in the game would be a great way to educate people on the differences... so, you know, maybe we can stop localizing tanuki as raccoons.

What would be the purpose of this forum if not for cute animal pictures? Its not like the regular wishlist threads are any more original, we have done that 1000x times, we can have a little fun with individual animal threads.

Back on topic though, I think the Raccoon Dog could benefit greatly from the coat variation. There so many pattern and colours on them, I think they would be really popular with the casuals just as the Red Fox is - yes actually, while the Red Fox was not well recieved here, casuals actually love it for the coat variation system and piebaldism mixes. I just hope Frontier would make them fluffy enough. That is one animal I want to see chunky.

There are some genuinely stunning color morphs for the raccoon dog out there. The unfortunate underbelly of that is that I believe many of them were specifically bred for in fur farms. There are quite a few pictures you can find via Google, but they're all very clearly in tiny cages and it makes me uncomfortable looking at them so I won't post any myself. But they range from mostly white with a very pronounced mask to vivid golden orange - Frontier could definitely have a field day incorporating these.

That said, unlike with the red fox where I actively embraced and sought out all the color morphs, I imagine I'd stick to the default pattern here personally.

Yeah pretty much the same thing as with the Red Fox, their variety of coat variants is unfortunatelly influenced by the fur farm breeding, so they are not that common in the wild either, but I imagine Frontier would still include those as with the Red Fox. I personally prefer the natural Red coat of the Fox too, but I have used the piebald morphs in zoos with a backstory that these foxes were rescues from fur farms.

Oh I am hitching myself to this gravy train. Hard yes.

It's not like I have to choose a favourite between this and the gray fox right? I'm a greedy goose, i can has both plis. The Slinky and the Chonk.

And - we can have as many individual animal threads as we damn well please. The speculation threads have gotten so cyclical and the argumentative tones are just yawn. Agree with Miss Foxy - let's bring back the fun!

Thank you for the very factual correction of my very factual fact. Did this thread specify one or t'other?
I don't think so actually... it just says Raccoon Dog... which could refer to either the Japanese Raccoon Dog or the Common Raccoon Dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) and its various subspecies.
