Radar Filter

Can you filter your radar to show enemy ships only? When you are in a serious dogfight with multiple bandits being able to filter the radar to show only enemies would be a great advantage. Those ships that are neutral would not be shown but would show up if they attacked you or your teammates.

This would be great on a toggle switch so you can cycle through this, or is this already in the alpha?

i like the idea but wouldn't it cause even more confusion? for example your radar shows you are coming up on a target but if the first ship you see is neutral rather than an aggressor it could end up with you firing on the wrong target.

I would rather have different radar symbols for different types of objects rather than filters that completely hide information from me. The Impeccable, for instance, should have it's own symbol. Or Zelada.

In the current setup enemy ships are shown in red, friendly ships are shown in green, neutral ones in the standard yellow, though sometimes there appears to be some switching between colours (may just be an alpha issue). Non ship objects such as canisters, navigation buoy and missiles are shown in white. Asteroids also show up in a kind of orangey brown.

So far there is no way of filtering out non hostiles, but then again a ship can turn from a neutral into a hostile in the press of a button, so personally I'd prefer to be aware of a ship coming up on my six before he starts shooting.

Not in the alpha. I, and a couple of other people have mentioned it before. (I wanted/still want a declutter button that would remove spurious contacts other than your locked target for a few seconds, in order to gain situational awareness in a dogfight. I'd also like the max range of the scanner kicked out by a few 10s of kms - feels really odd that a futuristic scanner is actually less use than the Mk1 eyeball at present...)

The nice devs did give use the linear vs. logarithmic switch (even if the range righ graphics don't change), so there is always hope! :)

I think its probably a declutter button I am after. I remember from the first elite when there are canisters and asteroids littered all over the place they can be distracting when targeting ships etc.
If you got 32 ships in one instance spilling their guts all over the place, its going to get very crowded on that radar screen.

Could be the larger canisters are big enough to hold ships then it could get interesting when a ship pops out of a cannister. That might be freightening (frightening) - its late bad puns now so I am off to bed

Upping this thread, I dont want to spam the Suggestion Section.

When you're in a crowded place and chasing an enemy without TrackIR its kind hard to keep up with it just by look at the radar because its full of triagle/squares.

A button to filter the radar to just show the targeted Enemie/Enemy only would really be awesome.

If the Forum Mods can Kindly transfer this to the suggestion section so it would be seen.

Thanks!

Enemy ships already have a very different color, and you can cycle through them separately.

Removing allied/neutral ships is just going to dramatically increase the risk of collisions and friendly fire incidents.

IDK, I use my radar for other things too, like watching for errant authorities careening across my FOV into my firing solution. Or for others about to be a collision if I bank hard one way.

Though, I could use a filter for some cases...though they might be too specific. For example, I'd want to filter out clean trade ships.

Well i don't know how useful it will be, for now the most dense region are combat zones. And when in combat zones i really do want to know where all ships are while turning/banking around an anaconda while engaging it. Position of other ships near me are very important to me as i mostly do not have them at my line of sight, and don't want to ram them or get rammed at high speeds. Still happens to me tho, but a lot less than before i kept an eye at the radar at all times while maneuvering.

The color blipping on your raddar is not an issue. It's just your radar having a hard time reliably identifying target far away or with reduced heat signature.
