Radar not very useful

There is, you just need to learn how to interpret the information (the closer they are to the centre of the projected plane and the shorter the lines the closer they are to you). Ultimately though, the EXACT numerical range is moot unless it is your current target and that information is presented on the HUD.
the exact range is not even what I'm after, is the object 1Km, 5Km, 500Km away? Who knows?

That can be guesstimated from the line lengths and intersection with the scanning plane. If you really have that much trouble interpreting the logarithmic range scale then you do have the linear range rendering option.

As mentioned, linear makes less sense with the lines.

FD could just make the lines mean something in terms of distance.

I have always liked the "radar" or relative object position indicator or what ever it is called ever since the original. Though it becomes less able to help the more populated it is.

A quick toggle to show only my target or hostiles might help. Perhaps even for cargo canisters and materials.

I can't think of a way to make it better unless you made it bigger by being able to zoom in. Then you could provide more data and perhaps selection abilities.

OH yeah. Can it interface with the stations and indicate the landing pad. We already have the tools when close, but a landing pad blip would be sweet. Plus the blip could have a shape to indicate orientation.

To a lesser extent of needfulness, could show a blip for entry to stations.
