radar symbols

I think I understand the colours on the radar (white, yellow, green, red, purple) but the shapes confuse me. You get rectangles, triangles and upside down triangles - what do they mean?

Non-white rectangles are ships with their weapons stowed. Triangles are ships with weapons deployed. Upside down triangles are above you, right side up triangles are below you (or is that backwards). Hollow squares or rectangles are player controlled ships, solids are NPCs.

Aha! Triangles mean weapons deployed - Thank you!

The orientation seems a bit pointless as you can tell by the vertical line. I thought it meant something but obviously it doesn't really.

Thanks again :) +1

And hollow triangles when you're in frame shift *might* just be a player with hardpoints deployed 'cus they're using a discovery scanner - but you never know. ;)

From the specific and obvious way a Player contact manoeuvres when looking to interdict, you do. Slow to minimum SC speed and keep your nose pointed at them, bathe in the sweet caps lock tears.;)

It's like an arrow. Point up is above, point down is below.

It's usually someone with an Interdictor. Especially if they're lining up behind you.

Actually I like the way the AI idiotically flits backwards and forwards, side to side when it tries to interdict. Love doing the 'I'll slam the brakes on and he'll fly right by' Maverick-Goose trick on 'em. Of course I then obligingly slow to 30km/s and submit to their machinations. We wouldn't want this becoming Elite: Totally Harmless now would we?
