Radio Sidewinder is simply awesome

To anyone who hasn't played this in the background when playing Elite, I'd strongly recommend it (the website lets anyone stream it live). Especially for prolonged "quiet" bits like trading, mining or exploring. It's a bit like the radio stations in GTA: music combined with lots of numerous ED-specific ads. The ads are well done, for the most part. Quite humorous. Well done to the chaps who pulled it together!

ahh geez, thanks Cmdr Katkon. I'm glad you're enjoying Radio Sidewinder.

As a listener would you like to get your Commander name and voice on the radio? We are putting together a recording of different commanders saying they listen to Radio Sidewinder. Further info here: http://www.radiosidewinder.com/forums/topic/we-need-your-voice/

Commander Makya - thank you so much for the donation. :)

While I appreciate the invite, the last thing I want to hear is my own voice played back to me. I do enjoy listening to others, though. The ads: windscreen smudge, Explorist magazine, hedonistic retreat, Lakon Type 6 and 9.... all very good!

Have you ever thought about DJs? Or how about real or fake GalNet news items being read out? I recall market data being read our in the form of a commodity market update, and wonder whether the same could be done with GalNet... Anyway - great job!

They already read galnet news with a text-to-speech voice called Computer Pete if I'm not mistaken.

My only issue with Radio Sidewinder, and it's outside of their control, is how the audio stream doesn't "mix" with the game audio. It's just "on top of it", which at times doesn't sound very good, either too loud when the game is quiet or inaudible when there's stuff going on. Only solution to that would be if Frontier devs allowed external audio to be mixed in the game, like for the custom soundtrack option in Rebel Galaxy. Then again, I'm not sure how one would play a web streaming audio...

I want to say that I had heard about Sidewinder Radio but never tuned in...Until this weekend when I was working the Kaushpoos CGs and chilling to the channel! I love it guys! Keep up the good work! I look to helping make content too it is that awesome!

I might have to start listening to it while at work on PC so that I can be coddled gently with Elite reminders for after that 'work stuff' is done!

yes just wanted to add my 2 cents, this is great and real testament to the dedication of the producers/fans who pull it together. Really adds much needed atmosphere (life!) to this otherwise great game.. Frontier should really be aiding them (if they arent already..)

Had a nice lazy weekend to myself (no football on, no friends to visit, no family) and spent many happy hours pottering around in Elite listening to Radio Sidewinder for the first time - absolutely loved it, great ads, and found several new tunes/bands into the bargain. +1 for a great job, donation incoming, rep all round :)

While I really like the station and the idea behind it... the (in lore)adds get a little repetitive after some time... (does Major Mick only fly sidewinders and T6s?:p)
I mostly listen because I love the galnet news updates (<3<3<3 the background theme)
Sadly these are often outdated and played waaaay to rarely ... at least for my ears.

But enough of the complaining! The choice of music is great and it feels realy immersive listening to them

i have been listening to this for months, its great for immersion...
also there is a voice attack profile(free) called kicks3 or kics3?.....will play all the ED radio stations with a voice command, from sidewinder to lave radio...and even a couple of european language ones, even the option to put your own playlist into kics3 aswell...it also has all the usual voice commands aswell, like request docking and all that good jazz.

but yeah radio sidewinder...its the best one still....radio lave has turned into some repeated advert for some audio book/play...game called Chaos something....
and a northen bloke on the podcast that sounds bladderd everytime hes on lol.....yeah...lave radio is a strange beast

and robot rachel sounds hot after lonely time in space..(ahem)

Just started listening to this on the back of this thread. What a fantastically immersive resource. I love it!

Kudos to all involved in bringing it to the Elite Dangerous universe!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments and feedback.

@Zyphriel - Yes Computer Pete and Robot Rachel are our dedicated Galnet news reporters for the moment. Yes, as you say that would be ideal, but there isn't much we can do about that at the moment.

@America Shaftoe - RS is also available via mobile apps for listening when you're not flying. :) Send us your ideas and content.

@fieldyHK - thanks, we try hard to role play everything and help bring the ED universe to life for our listeners.

@stridecolussus - cheers. I have tried to include new bands/artists into the music mix that I think fit.

@Acceleratio - yes, I'm aware it has got a bit repetitive. Myself and the RS team are currently working on some news ads and features, which we hope to get out to you soon.

@Hurricane Moon - thanks, high praise indeed! Robot Rachel sends her regards.

@Rubix - where have you been? Thanks and hope you'll become a regular listener.

@Vatos Turkos - thanks!

We're working on new content, aiming to do more regular Galnet reports read by us and some "live broadcasts", so please stay tuned Commanders.

If anyone would like to help out we're looking for some volunteers - http://www.radiosidewinder.com/jobs/

Agreed, Radio sidewinder accompanies me when i'm out exploring, i's great! Although a couple of the adverts to begin to grate on you after a while. The Kitten Coffee one....and i just can't listen to the Bang and the pirates are gone one anymore. I have to mute it....this isn't a criticism of Radio Sidewinder though, i do this in real life too. There are just some adverts i can't listen to.
Also a question: There is an advert (a real one i think) where there a man going on about having a rare disease, but no one cares because hes 'Just a man' i don't get it....Is there more to it we don't hear? It just stops without explaining what the disease is, what he's advertising or anything?
