All I want is hunting pirates and earn positive reputation to get permit and all I get is hostile reputation with feds and I don't know how, looks like reputation is pretty bugged, I hunt pirates and cops helping them against me, how can I increase my reputation now? Everyone is attacking me instantly. Spend 20 hours in the game, already have cobra and all completly for nothing. Reputation system needs completly remake.

You need to make sure that they are wanted by the local faction, otherwise you are shooting "innocent" people. easiest way is to bounty hunt in an Anarchy system... you can kill who you like there.

Firstly, make sure the target your shooting says "Wanted" on your initial scan. They have to have a local bounty or the feds will defend them. Secondly, there does appear to be an issue where if you go after a fed-friendly target with a fed bounty, local police might turn red on your radar (indicating they've become hostile) and announce in chat that they're making their attack run. However, they never seem to shoot, unless you shoot them first. I've sat completely motionless after having feds turn red and all they do is fly around me in circles stating they're starting their attack run. Endlessly, without ever actually starting an attack run. As long as you don't shoot them, they'll hover about but you can still go after bounties on grid with impunity.

Too much frustration, for ileagal cargo I get negative reputation too, so its completly useless too. No idea how to play this game and have fun.

Also make sure it isnt something Stupid like a 200 Cr bounty. Mate of mine spent 10 mins single handed taking down an Anaconda - 200 Cr bounty in the end

Don't bounty hunt in systems controlled by the faction with which you are trying to gain reputation. I'm Federal friendly - I only bounty hunt in independent, Alliance or Imperial systems. I will only get involved in combat in Federal systems if interdicted and attacked first by pirates, or for combat bond missions taken for a Federal faction.

The bounty system needs a remake... Also it's unclear to me...

If say a pilot belongs to group or faction "x"... shouldn't that faction reward the killing of an outlaw instead of punish the pilot who is helping secure order????

To find out if they have a bounty, target them and let it scan first. It will say Clean if they have no bounty, Wanted means you can shoot on sight and Unknown means you haven't finished scanning (they should be in front of you when you do this).

If you are Wanted you can pay your bounty at the bulletin board, on a station.

Regarding reputation, you should check your right hand UI and see which groups are supported by your faction (Federation, Empire or Alliance). To build up rep you'll also need to check your Contacts page (left UI) after scanning a target, so you can see which faction they are with. Once you are friendly with a faction their tags will be green so you won't have to check that anymore (for that system/faction at least).

The reputation system is elementary, my dear Holmes. Do missions for the faction you want rep with. Kill ships that are wanted in their jurisdiction. Do not engage their ships that are not wanted under any circumstances - including those ships firing on you.

There IS a bug with security service ships where if you shoot a wanted member of their faction while they are present, they will likely turn hostile and engage you. Frontier are aware of that and working on a fix, but they did say it was non-trivial to rectify. It's Christmas, it's better that they don't try rolling out large fixes an patches till the holiday season is over and everyone is back in the office and focussed.

Just to reiterate - if a ship fires on you, do not return fire until you ascertain for certain that there is a bounty on it. In all other cases, either accept the fire while you take out your initial target then run, or just run. If you shoot a ship that is not wanted (different to hostile) then you will lose reputation with that ships faction.

do a left/right check. meaning go to the left hand panel (under contacts) and see what faction he belongs to. then go right hand panel and make sure that faction is not the top listed one in the system, those are the ones who basically call the shots and to whom the system authority belongs to. alternatively, check trough your contracts and watch what faction is listed for the cops in your area. just because they wanted don't mean they are on bad standings. once they attack you (first) they are fair game. just ask Han Solo sometime how this whole shooting first thing works out.

and about illegal cargo's, that should be fairly self explanatory, there just MIGHT be a reason its called illegal. (not unlike if you'd stuff your pockets full of pot and walk into a high security building now, if a cop frisks you then you probably end up with a bad rep too ;)

as far as its concerned, you can try low heat sig smuggling, if you HAVE to get it in that station (there are tutorial videos of that all around) try an outpost that has low security and won't scan you, or do speed smuggling, getting in there before they can finish their scan which too carries risks of a sudden, fast meeting with the station wall if your not the best pilot.

either way, personally i don't think the rep system is broken or needs rework. the info to avoid repercussion is there, just not necessary flashed in huge letters n your screen when you target someone. for me, it adds a little to the game that you have to look and check before you attack, tho i can't speak for everyone, some may like big flashy arrows that point to an enemy and say attack here :D
