Raiders do they exists in the lore of ED or just a nice skin pack?

Name of the post says it all. I like and both some Raiders skins cause they look cooler then Pirate Skins. Now I am troubled with the dilemma. Aren't Raiders at Sea or Space called Pirates? Well never mind is there any official lore about Raiders form the World of Elite ? Else we all know what raiders are I just wondered if they actually exists in ED as a faction or Power or something.

Here in the UK we sometimes tell tales around the campfire of the fabled Space Raiders, who once made it their mission to bring affordable savoury snacks to the masses. Many have fond memories of their daring supply drops to local businesses.

Make your own story. I said the same about the passenger decals when they first released. People, for some daft reason, complained about some great looking decals (Which we really needed after seeing a select few upper-class players getting special decals), because they "had no meaning".

Well give them some meaning you daft muppets!

I'm absolutely making a Raider Cobra.

Yea that was what I was hoping for :) I just needed to confirm there are no existent such of signification value.
@Jamey good one but I never pictured Raiders a robin hoods type of guys :p Maybe a pirate Faction yes but Raiders well pretty sure what they do is Raid the masses that are an easy target like in low sec populated systems. Still well presented idea.

I'm scraping together the funds for my own brig. Maybe I'll see you out there...

The "Raider" ship kits seem to be modelled on the "Reavers" of the Firefly/Serenity universe, and similar sci-fi tropes: barely-sentient devolved humans that fly slap-dash cobbled-together ships, covered in spikes, blades, rams and other low-tech terror weapons.

There is no Elite-based lore, either in ED or in earlier games, of any groups of people flying such ships. Pirates in the original Elite game often flew the Mamba, an obsolete cut-down version of the Viper which was described as being cobbled-together in the original game manual, as well as the Krait, the only original Elite design with prominent "spikes".

I know all about the Reavers :) I just think that the name Raiders is really bad alternative. Even if Reavers could be copyrighted and jezz Reapers as name now belongs to Mass Effect. Raiders really belong to post-apocalyptic world (Fallout 4, Mad Max) since they are futuristic alternative to our old RL excising raiders like VIKINGS, Chengdu Khan. Witch are Real Life Raid Parties that spawned the name Raiders for the Si-Fi future genre.

As such if there was a Raider party in ED it only seems benefiting they would be attacking and plundering the Systems controlled by the bit 3 Federation, Empire and Alliance. Disregarding any law and narcotization with them like some sort of folk that lives out side of the bubble and only come to the bubble to Raid.

Such organisation as the Vikings, Mongolians and Raiders in Fallout 4 and Mad Max. Should hardly have a unified function or one Leader, because it is too hard for one Person to control them all. Since they already disregard Authority and obey only the stronger.

I am also pretty sure it's a homage to the awesomeness of Firefly.

True, no mention of 'raiders' in the Dark Wheel, or game manuals (for all three previous games), so they might become a new thing at some point (and no harm in that either).

It might be my memory messing up, but i could have sworn Pirates would also attack me in sidewinders, Gecko's and on occasion the Constrictor? Or i might be confusing that last with mercenary types perhaps (from Frontier and FFE)?

So I was wrong. Sue me. Wasn't the first time and it won't be the last.
