Railguns vs Missile Racks in combination with Beam Lasers

Hello everyone.

I have just tested the railguns and they are super sweet and all, but i have been getting VERY inconsistent damage with them, and for the price they cost per bullet, that will get me broke in no time.

I was wondering if anyone has used both the railgun and the missile rack, and which one is the more reliable source of damage considering the reload cost of each bullet.

The railgun has given me both a 34% hull damage (which is huge!!) and 1%...

The full reload is almost over 28k..

Greatly appreciated.

The configuration for Beta 3 I ultimately stuck with is 2x Class 2D fixed beams + 2x Class 1B missile racks (unguided). The two beams rip the shields off anything in short order and the unguided rockets typically drop just about anything short of an anaconda in 1-2 hits. Sometimes there is that last little 5% I need to bleed off with the beams, but that's no big deal. This is for a Viper. I tried pure railguns as well as railguns + beams but found the railguns too expensive to use. I use the beams exclusively against the lowest value targets (anything under 2k) unless the combat situation dictates otherwise. I use a similar setup for the Eagle, 2x beams on the bottom + a rocket launcher on top.

Using a viper here too.

Same oppinion as you have. Railguns are too inconsistent and expensive in comparison to dumbfire missiles, they do amazing damage and are very consistent with it.

I've tried dumbfire missiles, and they do some damages, yes, but on my Viper half of them fire backward, I know they are "dumb", but come on, they should at least be able to learn "front" and "rear" :D

how about a plasma accelerator?

Very slow projectile speed, but super high damage.
Cannon is the same way.

A fellow Commander made an amazing post about what weapons take down an Anaconda, and used the heavier weapons (cannon, Rail, Dumb Fire Missiles, and Plasma Accelerator).

Look up 'Anaconda' in the forum search function (i'm on my iPad right now, else i'd do it to help you out).
