Raising/lowering path when in grid mode?

Is there a way to raise or lower the path when using the grid mode for placing paths? I tried holding down the mouse button and dragging up/down (which works with normal path placement), holding shift and dragging up/down but it doesn't seem to work. It seems the only way to create sloped paths in grid mode is to place 1 tile, then raise/lower the grid, place another tile somewhere, and try to connect them in a straight line. The problem with that method is that it gets rid of the square edges. Any ideas or is it just not possible?

I can't remember whether this works in the grid or not, but the hotkeys to raise and lower a path are now "U" and "J." In normal mode, at least. I assume it's the same in the grid.

There's no way to raise/lower the path in grid mode, but you don't really need to. Just switch back to normal path mode to make your slope or stairs, then switch back to grid mode when you reach the upper landing for continuing the square edge path. There's no need to "place another tile somewhere and try to connect them"... you can continue the same path with square edges after making the stairs or slope. Just choose the same path as your path grid. I just checked then to confirm this works fine.
