Rammed insta death in station.

I've raised a ticket but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

I had about 40 rares on my Lakon - 6. Was docking in Futen when what appeared to be an NPC ship rammed me a pretty low speed (I was barely doing 50). I had full shields and 2 pips in Sys. He didn't seem to be moving fast at all.

I was instakilled. Lost everything had to loan to get insurance.

It was extremely unexpected, apart from in combat I've never had an NPC ram cause this amount of damage at low speed.

The other possibility was a Player boosting at me on purpose but I could only see one other player and he was in front of me in a Lakon as well and it wasn't him. The other ship didn't seem to be that fast but then again it was over in seconds. I'm wondering if ramming griefing is going on? Would a sidey take out a Lakon 6 from a boost in a station?

Totally confused about this. Anyone else experienced this?

Ramming damage isn't a crazy as it was but I still see what amounts to almost random collision damage, even at low closing speeds. None of this is made any easier by system security jamming their noses into your hull in order to perform a scan.

ED still has a long way to go re NPC behaviours causing collision wipe-outs. It's just a shame that these silly behaviours are also wiping out the will to keep playing.

Its a shame, I might just sell my Lakon and go back to my Cobra, I thought some rare trading might make a change but after a couple of hours collecting and transporting rares to be insta killed at the destination is too painful. At least in combat its generally more fun before you die.

If the ship ramming you is bigger and moving faster than you are then it's going to hurt more. What was the other ship?

Also, could it have nudged you into the station as well? An NPC Type 9 plus a piece of the station would probably be enough to take out a Type 6.

Occasionally ram damage seems to go through the roof...i`ve lost a cobra with B grade full shields to a 6kph impact with a station wall..other times i`ve hit something doing 50 to almost no damage whatsoever...there seems to be a RNG in effect but i don`t see why there would be.

I've been an advocate of reducing collision damage to almost nothing and instead have impacts cause longer periods of tumbling lack of control. This way 'peace time', i.e., whilst docking, collision events are embarrassing but not devastating; and 'hostile', i.e., during a dogfight, collision events are not directly harmful in and of themselves but the time spent tumbling makes you an easy target.

Dying to ramming is a crappy thing to happen because it usually happens by accident and the folks minding their own business at the time tend to have the most to lose to it. What is more, what with the crappy NPC behaviour in being unable to take player avoiding action, NPCs are almost always involved with collisions.

You do realise that ramming NPC's to death (because they always dock through the middle and not to the right) is at least half the point of buying a space cow, right? :p

Had an NPC in a Cobra ram my Cobra as I came out of the interdict. Boom, both dead.

Back when they had the 'authority' vessels dialed up so they were interdicting you every 5 seconds (late Beta and early Gamma), I ended up crashing into them several times as well.

Collisions definitely need a closer look. NPC ships shouldn't be instagibbing people in the stations, etc... So far I've lost my Cobra 3 times to NPC brain farts. Two were instagib crashes, one was to the station when the big space pig got stuck in the entrance, and the station decided to kill it, and shot me up in the process.

Fortunately, I never leave the station without enough cash on hand to afford the insurance. :D

It was either a sidey or a cobra. Definitely not a big ship. We didn't even seem to be moving that fast relatively.

Lucky I was insured (had to use loan though). It was a risky run, but I enjoy the excitement. I don't mind if its my error but something this random made me think that I'll keep to short run trading. Losing loads of rares is painful.

Same thing happened to me. Luckily it was on my return trip and cost me 'only' CR600K in cargo and insurance, if I had been going the other way it would have cost nearly 2 million credits (not good as total worth was only some 5 mill).

Since learned that the stock Type-6 has an inferior (class-3) shield - I've upgraded mine now to a class-4 and survived a couple of dings so far.

I've been coming out of stations before and had a couple of "new" CMDRs bounce off me into the walls and die.
I figure it was a learning experience for them. Just slow down and make sure you line up the entrance/exit of the station well before you get up into it so you can watch for any traffic.
Since the NPCs are NOT going to stop for you, just stay out of their way unless you're ship is big enough to splat them against the wall.

i once rammed the station with 400 m/s. not a dent on my shield :p i was like good bye 380k then wth?

I haven't exploded yet, but yes I have been rammed many times by the ridiculous "one way" sized station entrance.
Many hauler players have no shields and I can land 100% of the time with maybe only a paint scrape cost me $110 credits.

NPC ram me all the time, only because they are either too slow ( I ain't waiting, games already too slow ), or because the radar doesn't show them inside the station and they or you crash into them. Repair costs $70K :)

Honestly though....it was the only thing that woke me up and made me take drastic manoeuvres.......
So yeah, money so easy to make in this game once you get a decent kit.

Expensive ship insurance is dumb, I have been against insurance right from the start. Insurance is pointless.
Players worked for those ships, penalty for deaths puts me off wanting an expensive ship.

Those default lakon-6 shields are actually cellophane bubbles inflated with a reversed dust-buster. The dust buster blows harder with 4 pips to make it actually worth while.
I always had to put 4 pips on shields when I exit the envelope for this exact reason. Once you get C or B shields on the lakon-6 though, you can just push past everything smaller than you. Don't mess with the type-7 or 9's ...

Try making a habit of putting 4 pips to systems when entering and leaving stations, regardless of shield module grade. An FDEV confirmed that increase in pips isn't linear (and that goes for all three assignments). There is a slight curve, so that fourth pip to systems gives you noticeably better shield protection.

At least half the collisions are because players are ignoring the red/green lights and are trying to exit the station on the same side that other players are trying to enter.

So it would be a better habit if players actually looked for the green lights and stuck to them.

It's also very frustrating when impatient players fly round ships that are leaving as the last thing you need when approaching the exit is for a Type 6 to suddenly appear in your face. The time it takes to manouvre round and then desperately fire thrusters to try and prevent yourself from hitting the sides could have been saved by simply hanging back and letting the person in front leave in their own time.

There's a thing to be said for docking bay etiquette and unfortunately almost no one seems to obey any of it.

Once again, easy fix for this, Im gona post it in every thread I see like this.....

Speed limit for insurance reasons, going 80-100 or lower in the station or to just past the adverts = no insurance pay out if killed due to collision

Got a Type 9 last night. EVERY human player backs waaaaaay off as I'm entering or leaving the station. Kinda feel like tramp royalty as my brick with wings chugs and groans slowly, very slowly through the entrance. I'm pretty sure I could boost at the entrance and still not hit the other end it is that slow and unmaneuverable :)
