Ramming for fun and profit

I'm still nervous whenever someone rams me, as I remember all too well the weird randomness of damage from ramming in beta, and I just thought I'd check if anyone actually has a good feeling for whether this can really be used as a non-suicidal strategy.

I have an Anaconda, but it's trader-outfitted with 5A shields, which gives me 272MJ shield strength (and 749 tons mass unladen). In my experience, due to the slow and lumbering nature of the Anaconda, other pilots often get very close before they break their attack run, and ramming by using boost *could* work in some cases, but is it only a function of relative shield strength (so that a much smaller Python with A6 shields would squish me), or is mass taken into account as well? I mean, no matter the shields, a Cobra pilot would get one heck of a whiplash ramming me if Newtonian physics apply...

I haven't done any practical experiments yet, as it's rather expensive insurance on the Anaconda after a couple of upgrades ;)

Any thoughts/practical experience post-beta?
