Ramming is no fun.

Too many times today I have gently manually teased my big fat Anaconda into and out of the letterbox slots of various stations only to have someone (usually an NPC/AI "Yellow Peril") slam into me from below/above/in front/behind.

If I see another craft coming through the box I give way (who wants to take a risk?) NPC's/AI's just keep on going it seems.

Are they really programmed to be that aggressive/dumb?

So, before moaning about being "squashed like a bug" please appreciate it is not easy to avoid small rapidly moving vessels hell-bent on getting through the exit/entrance first.

Ta!

AI aren't particularly good at avoiding collisions when docking or undocking (if they start from the pads closest to the entrance, they usually end up splatting against the wall instead); but even a bad human pilot should be able to see an Anaconda coming and avoid it unless they're in a Type 9 that's just hit boost.
Just put max pips to shields and hope the collisions don't break through to your hull.

I guess with the increasing population it was always inevitable that the letter box would be a real point of congestion, but the constant lack of awareness with pilots blasting through station openings without looking or keeping to their own side is getting more that a bit tiresome. At this point I'd almost be fine with Frontier unleashing the station auto-cannons on anyone who doesn't stick to the green side of the entrance. Zero tolerance should learn them double smart!

put 4pipes on shield and plug your way throu it. i remember one of the first docking i made with this ship ~100 m form the bay i accidently pushd the boost
i put all pipes to shield rammd one type 6 and a few other ships. put al in revers engine and rammd the station about 30 m/s still a little shield left. and a big clouds of debris behind me ^^

I think it is essential that elite has the classic Coriolis space station so do not take this as me asking for it to go....

However.....

Personally I think in the full game this station should be reserved for back water systems.

it makes sense to me in more highly populated systems to have stations with an entrance on the front and an exit on the back.

further more some stations could be specifically designed for larger craft - esp at "ports" where huge amounts of large scale manufacture/ trade is happening. (I am thinking the entrance of the space station on "Earth 2" if you remember that show - if not google the opening credits, the space station pops up for a few seconds there.

When I was playing "offline" I gave a damn about NPCs as soon as I had my T9 heavy or lateron the 'conda. Shields up and whoever doesn't jump out of the way gets squished. Who cares about NPCs?

In open play I am really really careful. Not that my ship can't handle a rough cuddling, but I don't want to ruin some other player's day.

But yeah, indeed these NPC pilots need some polishing when it comes to flying/docking skills. :D
