Ramming is so 500 B.C.

Ramming, physical collision, ship to ship impacts. Lets be honest, tactical ramming isn't necessary, but may be a common end.

The story goes; 'I am going to do a conflict zone, anyone want to go?'.
'No, every time I do one I get rammed,' come the answers.
Ok, so I'll do it myself.
Fast forward to the combat zone. There are a lot of ships, targets, weapon fire. Choose a side and go nuts. Pew Pew, third one down, awesome. SMACK! ?? (SPINNING) EJECT. KABOOM.
Aww, collision, well not a big deal, only down about 43k now with my kills, oh wait, whatever, lets go again, just bad luck.
Back in the zone, two down this time, working on the third when it turns into me, fires and SMACK, CRACKS (SPINNING) EJECT. KABOOM.
Then repeat a third time. I log out, not having fun.
Completely killed it for me. Ramming is lame, for lack of a better term.
Is this too common, or was it a bad run on my part?
After all everyone else said not to go, you'll just get rammed.

I thought it was funny when I interdicted a wanted Viper who promptly turned a 180 and immediately killed himself smacking into my Cobra, but then having the shoe on the other foot a few times I would have to say its not amusing.

Collisions are going to happen, and they should end like a collision would. Fine.
How about faulting the jerk that hit me for the insurance, not me. Huh? That's how we do it in the real world.
How about making it a 50/50 at fault, half off insurance if NPC rams, split cost between players in other collisions, unless they both explode, but I haven't heard that happening yet, which is odd.

What would make it so Ramming didn't leave such a bad taste?

(if you haven't had this problem I am happy for you, but please don't post just to say so. KTHNX.)

Using your thrusters along their yaw axis at the last moment does the trick. A couple of close range dumb-fires usually dissuades them from trying it again.

Yeah, use your thrusters, if you are going straight on someone. You avoid ramming, you avoid all the slow but high damage projectiles and blasts. It is your fault you are getting rammed, do not blame anyone else.

Totally doing that.

Every time I go into a conflict zone, I end up getting ram killed by some random npc, not even one I'm fighting or is firing at me. Too many ships there man, they could quintuple the payout and I still wouldn't go there, not worth dying from something you can only avoid by not going there.

My friend, it takes two to tango. If you find yourself frequently "being rammed" perhaps you're the one doing the ramming? I bet that if you paid a bit more attention to who's flying around you/where, you'd collide less often with NPCs. As for the Viper that plowed straight into you - if you didn't budge, it could be argued to plowed straight into him - and got lucky!

Ramming is incredibly noob and easy to avoid. If you see a ship coming straight at you, you turn. Yes, I know you're trying to line up a shot with your guns, so are they, that's why they're about to ram you. See, what's actually happening is, 90% of they time they're not trying to ram you, they're just trying to line up a shot but because they suck, they don't turn out of the way when they get too close. Then if you die from their ram, they pretend that they meant to do that and it was all skill.

Let's see where 'skill' got this guy, shall we?

Ramming is a valid tactic at killing stuff as much as falling down stairs is a valid tactic for getting down them. Sure, it gets the job done, but what's the cost to who's doing the ramming, and what happens when you come up against someone with actual skill?

I love to ram enemy ships when I have excess shields. A well timed boost when up close can put some big hurt on your opponent.

I ram ships flying in a straight line or a consistent, predictable manner when I am trying to kill them. Can't stop, won't stop, feels too good lol.

Evasive maneuvers is a little bit easier compared to Roman times, and we have lower case letters now as well. There is no end to our advances! :D

Yesterday i was about to disconnect for going to sleep when i notice an elite Anaconda with a 100000cr bounty. I've engaged her with Cobra with 4 multicannons but i was dangerously low ammo, when her hull drop to 5% my ammo were depleted.
What to do? Ramming speed of course!
I quickly used the last shield bank and hit the boost button.
She exploded, i got the bounty, and my hull drop down to 20%. I've risked to lose 1.2m of not yet redeemed bounty, i acted like an idiot, but the feeling of ramming and killing was good. And i think that sometimes the mechanics behind the collisions are somewhat bugged.

You know, Asimov wrote a story where an interstellar war was won by fitting actual rams onto spaceships and using them just like triremes. So if it is good for Asimov, it is good for us :D

Sorry, if you haven't spent any time in the combat zones you may be missing something.
I didn't ask if its too common because I wanted a horde of Captain Obvious to come out of the wood work, I noting something ing me off that doesn't happen as often in other games with lots of craft, like or w/e SWBF2.
The ramming seems out of proportion.
Two were broadside, didn't even see it coming, the first and last. Don't even know friend or foe. Quick succession.
...and if that is the case; suicide Viper FTW, see you in the mailbox.

As far as I can tell the AI has no inclination to avoid damage whether in the form of collision or weapons fire.
