Ramming NPC just lost me my wingmate!!!

I spent months enthusing to my brother about ED, I eventually bought it for him, he still didn't really play....Then eventually he caught the bug. We became wing mates, we ruled the galaxy (had fun!)...now he has dumped ED completely in utter disgust...why?
.

Because of the stupid ramming actions by NPC flyers whenever you remain stationary in space for any length of time!!
.
Because after doing just one more Community Goal and this happening...., in a Nav Beacon area having farmed bounties for two+ hours and with 2 million+ creds on board, he put up the system map up for a second... and BAM!!! NPC rams his rear, dies!, and my brother is now wanted for murder! everyone turns red and opens up. Not only that but he is now unable to go to the station running the CG because he has a bounty on his head......
.
So he has had enough of the twisted NPC "logic" of them ramming whenever you slow things down or momentarily place your attention elsewhere...
.
Thanks FD!

Why can't he go to the station for the CG? There is nothing stopping him from going there I do it all the time. Being wanted is NO BIG DEAL, it will eventually expire and nothing will change.

If he can't stand 2 million credits then ED is definately nothing for him. Everyone loses his ship sooner or later and my ship costs 30 million to rebuy.

So rebuy plus two million bounty bonds aren't really much of a loss. Keep playing or get out but ramming is a normal combat move. So what?

If he can't dock at the main station for any reason, fly to a different system, buy a sidewinder, come back, and pick a fight with a fed. Bam dead. Bounty gone. Lol rebuy, fly back to get your usual ship and dock as normal. Sell sidey.
But seems as he has many bounties to cash in, I suggest sneaking in the station and cashing in first.

Drop in to he station as normal, fly out 10km and line up with the letterbox. Put all pips to shields.
Boost in, at 7.5km request docking. Depending on your speed, boost again, at 5km lower gear and glide through the slot. All pips to engines, flip over 180 and full throttle(not boost), to slow down. Should be OK.
Doesn't work in large ships though. But then your shields can just bounce off the dock so it doesn't matter. Lol

It is annoying when NPCs try and mate with your hull though.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it was a combat maneuver. NPCs have a habit of just ramming you, regardless of combat status, or even whether you're in a combat zone to begin with. Now, I don't get rammed, but then I never really sit still. I'm always moving unless I'm already docked. But not everyone is gonna think that moving is a NECESSITY, and they never SHOULD think it's necessary to survive.

Not sure what you meant by "Keep playing or get out" though. Keep MOVING or get out, perhaps? In which case, I've answered that concern the best I can.

EDIT: To answer Sapcehead, it sounds like the wingman died AFTER getting the bounties, so there wouldn't be anything to cash in. They lost 2m on top of ship rebuy, and if this is a new player, 2m is a LOT. Just because we put more time in and can make money stupid-fast doesn't mean a newbie will be able to do the same. I definitely remember when making just 5k was a lot to me, counting pennies just to save up for my Eagle I could just barely reach.

SECOND EDIT: OP, if you can get your wingman to play again, help him learn to never be stationary. Teach him some basics that you can remember, and see if anyone else can provide info for weird      we all need to keep working around. (Such as NPCs not playing by the same rules we do still, come now FD, it can't be THAT hard to fix, right?)

Sounds like he needs to drop bounties off for a cg.

From what I read, it didn't sound like his wingman actually died.... Maybe I misunderstood it. It just sounded like he feels "barred" from docking at the CG station. Plus, If he did die, then he should no longer have a bounty on his head. So docking is no problem, but he would have lost the 2m in bounties...

Edit, yeah, I was right.

Lol
Sneaking in to the station will allow him to cash in his bounties. Then buy a sidey and go pick a fight with a fed. Lol

Yup, do this. I read it wrong!

Ramming has never happened to me stationary or otherwise so I fail to see what everyone is crying about. What are you guys doing to reproduce this as clearly I am missing something?

Oh the ramming doesn't just happen when you are sitting still, now you get scanned and rammed when you are in a dogfight. Am starting to get quite miffed now and will raise a ticket. I have done everything to try and avoid being rammed whilst cruising around, everytime I hear "Ship scan detected" I am weaving and waiting for the inevitable but now whilst trying to manage shields and tracking a target I am now being scanned and hit mid dogfight by even dummer NPC ships. This is ridiculous, loosing shield from enemy fire or contact is fine but from a non-combatant!!!

And then I get scanned and hit from no-where by a sidey which destructs on impact and I am now wanted and have a bounty for murder. This combined with active/dormant bounties that seem to never run down the clock (I am into the 4th 7 day cycle of the same bounty due to the occasional NPC crossing my line of fire) is really starting to impact on my enjoyment of the game. If an NPC is stupid enough to fly into me because it cannot control speed or course it should not result in me being punished.

There have been more than enough instances and posts on this that it is clearly a bug and needs correcting by the developers.

Oh, it's definitely not limited to when you are stationary.
Hi all CMDR's,
.
Thanks for your comments on this "quirk" in the game..... some replies to above comments:
.
This has now happened to him 4 or 5 times..... learn your lesson" ..... sure but it's a harsh lesson with no rationale. "Keep moving at all times"....why should you need to, in the supposed vastness of space?... "no big deal".... he is (was) a newbie and it does matter to him! "Use a Sidey to clear your bounty".... this is not "game play" but an out-of-game work-around to ameliorate a flawed game mechanism with an arbitrary penalty! (you shouldn't need to)
.
The real intent of my post was to highlight the effects flawed game mechanics have on the retention of "newbie" pilots who become frustrated with, what is already a complex game/sim to initially get to grips with,.... without being hit by game changing incomprehensible penalties when an NPC seemingly kamikaze's your ship (for no discernible reason, in a non-combat setting).... as a "newbie" 2 million Credits IS a big deal (as someone pointed out).... "suck it up or get out!!" .....he got out! (one less in the "season" revenue stream for FD and "Nobby-No-Mates" for me!):(
.
Rep +1 given to all above CMDR's who have seen the point I'm trying to make:)

This bug happens when i am moving. Full steam ahead npc on onionhead.

You need to understand that for NPCs, death is not really an issue. In fact it can be a blessing; as they get to go back to school. Unfortunately of late; their favourite tutor is missing. She whom over the years, has given them special skills and taught them, new and interesting killer moves and given them access to better weapons. So suicide is their only real option; they kill themselves in the hope, that this time; the goddess will be there waiting, to greet and nurture them, once again.

Why do people keep saying "ramming is a combat move"?
Its not ships I'm in combat with that RAM me every time i dock or launch or stop to read my contacts. Its security ships mostly. They smash into me at 200ms then tell me "everything is fine, continue on Commander".
Its a stupid annoying bug that needs fixing.
Its been happening since 1.5/2.0

Also i love the "it doesn't happen to me so therefore it doesn't happen at all" logic.

Ahhh..... you speak of the hallowed "Sarah Jane" I really do miss her deft touch on those flaming wayward NPC's ...Have some REP sir:p

P.S. Professionally I use "LinkedIn" and am "subscribed" to SJA's pages and often "link" up with her, and can thoroughly recommend people have a look for themselves if they get the chance!:D

CMDR hems303 this is 100% a highjack!

I assume the cartridge in your signature is a 7.62x54r? correct comrade? :)
just curious

I collect and shoot military firearms as well as other costly hobbies, this game is bargain for me :D

Regardless of the 'scan bug' (which has happened only a handfull of times for me and never resulted in a bounty, Amazon must love me or something): if x-million credits is a big deal to a player, he should cash it in. The "I am sure everyone will be alright" mentality is a bad one with ED, and inevitably you'll hit the dirt at some point. And if someone has such a low tolerance for frustration I doubt ED will b enjoyable.

Serious question: for whose enjoyment have you spend months of your time plus the purchase cost to get him to play? It sounds like you want to play ED with him, but ED is not really his cup of tea. None of my business ofcourse, but it might be that without this scan-incident he'd have quit anyway due to some other grievance...
