Ramming speed accident

I managed to collide with a rather large and unshielded ship.
It started spewing its cargo all over the station.
Besides feeling bad for being in an accident I noticed that my shields held and I was undamaged.
I can understand that they can deflect incoming ordinance But a collision shouldn't have left me undamaged, we are talking several hundred tons colliding.
So I want collisions to be bad for both parties shielded or not.
 
That's actually pretty funny. I saw a cargo ship get stuck in a dock entrance for the same reason. Poor guy couldn't figure out which thrusters would get him out of the doorway. Then the station weapons started firing. It was sad.

I do agree with you though. Shields aren't supposed to be magical. I feel there is a similar problem with no damage missile hits on ships with active shields. The small area of impact and large force should mean even a kinetic (no explosion) projectile should do some damage. Maybe a ratio depending on shield size and strength, so as shields get weaker they start letting more damage through, but for full shields 1-25% bleed through based on weapon class compared to shield strength.
