Newcomer / Intro Ramming

Some intentionally rammed into me and destroyed my ship and I had to pay for it. I think that they should get fined for doing that, if they don't already. This isn't that big of a deal when you just have a sidewinder but I'm still fairly new to the game but I did have an adder and it cost me 15k to rebuild. May not seem like much but it is when you're still getting used to the game. All in all, they should have to pay for your ship if that happens and get a wanted status on them because that is just a major nasty move.

ramming at over 100m/s (number subject to tweakage) will be in the next beta phase as a criminal activity (subject to bounty and station gun response) for the powerplay update. you wont get help with the cost of your ship though, but the other guy will get blown up as well.

this is all subject to change, but it's the devs intention to try it out in the next beta phase

4 pips to systems >> 2 in engines >> boost :D

It's legitimate tactic while fighting. If someone rammed you in station or just in front of it, it's a di*k move

Sure but we weren't fighting. I was just flying around a nav beacon killing pirates and this jerk just comes out of no where and rams into me twice, first time to weaken me and the second time for the kill. That's a d**k move if I ever saw one and I'm sure he didn't get penalized for it either.

I really hope you're right because this kind of stuff should definitely be a criminal offense in the game. I wouldn't have minded so much if he just fired at me because that's the kind of player he'd be but, nope, decides to ram instead.

Pretty sure there is something in the upcoming release about this. have a look at the last dev update. It may just be in stations though.

Ramming is a particularly cowardly thing to be doing. It obviously gives the rammers some form of pleasure but it's pretty pathetic.

Making ramming over a certain speed while in the no fire zone will be coming in 1.3.

It was some player who probably has no friends in the real world trying to let you know he likes you in a totally inept way OR it was a player who probably has no friends in the real world acting like a bit of a moron.

At the moment it's one loop hole in the game where another player can destroy you intentionally without getting a fine or wanted status.

The good news is that it took him two attempts. It means the next time it happens (fingers crossed that it won't) you'll know what to look for and can either do a runner or open fire on him/her.

Once you have a bit more money/larger ship invest in some shield boosters and hull re-enforcement internals. Whilst flying an Asp I had two players in vultures try the ramming thing - vultures ramming asps to death was a popular topic at the time on the forum - unfortunately for them I had my asp kitted out as a combat variant with two shield boosters and additional hull re-enforcement. They both ran away with no shields and badly damaged hulls. Neither of them wanted to text chat either?!?

Moron's are a fact of life and ED will always have it's share of them, you can only really chalk it up to experience.

If you want a real test of your piloting abilities try and ram an eagle to death whilst flying a Lakon 6. I spent a good 40 minutes trying this (with an NPC) and had to give up, but it taught me a lot about how to manoeuvre in a floating bucket!

Nah, if it will be a crime in stations it will most probably also be a crime elsewhere. Without the lethal (station) response of course.
I'd suggest something like 200Cr bounty for ramming and the (how much is ist now? 4000Cr) higher bounty if the other ship is killed.

It will only be a crime in a "no fire zone" around a station. It will remain a valid tactic in combat

Another alternative is to play solo or join a group for group play. It too bad when a new player is enjoying self and just learning the ropes is harassed in such a way.

It will. You can also shoot another ship if it is wanted and/or shot you first without it being a crime. But I'd think ramming a 'neutral'/not wanted other ship is a crime... but we'll see.

It is much like doing the first shot on someone.

Sounds like a bone-head to me!

I've not been rammed myself but did accidentally crash in to an anaconda during a fire fight, with terrible results for me - My ship exploded but he was ok
