Ran across an NPC with an Unusual NAME...

Sunday I ran across an NPC - I forget what he was flying - named Braben.

There was no reason to take him out - though I did consider it.

He'd have been an easy kill.

For some reason I have yet to fathom I let him move along.

I'm hearing the Twilight Zone theme song in my head right now. [wacko]

Yep - he's been kicking around the Imperial systems in his Cobra Mk III (what else?) for a while now:

I saw him Facece. I felt no need to attack a fellow Imperial citizen.

Today i ran across an usual thread which pops up every now and then.

A thread where someone has seen NPC named Braben.

There are many Braben's out there And some other fancy names.

I'd love to know the source of the NPC names.

I've always wondered why "Iain Norman" has been spotted more than once out there.

I certainly didn't add it as a backer NPC name. I've still yet to spot my backer NPC name.

I hope no one else added it, that's creepy.

I was interdicted by the Bodhisattva of Compassion - Avalokiteshvara. Since I didn't want to fight him, I evaded the interdiction, luckily that worked out.

Later I was offered to kill Mint Sauce, after meeting Guybrush Threepwood...

I think there is a random name generator for it + the user submitted names.

I ran into Mr. Threepwood myself; it ended badly for him. Shortly thereafter, I took out Hermes Conrad. Poor guy.

I can answer this ... Mr Michael Brookes once said on this very forum, in reply to someone (it might have been me, I can't remember), that the NPC names are taken from various buckets (his term, not mine). So there's a bucket that contains our submitted NPC names (I'm still waiting to see my NPC name in the game), and a bucket that contains our Commander names, hence why "Alien" has been seen several times as an NPC, and "Braben", "Chris Roberts" and several other notable names.

I don't think we should kill any of the Braben's we find. Just in case this is all a figment of his own imagination and the game just stops!
