Ran out of fuel for the first time

After several thousands of hours of play time it finally happened to me. I ran out of fuel 1Kls away from my destination. 😂 A 28m cr self-destruct is a pricey way to speed up arrival, but it worked! Totally what I meant to do, mind you. This is why ya always have a Fuel Scoop onboard if you aren't staying in system people!

Anyone else run out of fuel and feel like roasting their stupidity in public?

I've never ran out of fuel since ED went live- even in my most stupid builds I've always planned ahead (this was a Corvette with a <4Ly range that required jumponium to work on a 2T tank). The closest I came to running out was when I was dropped next to a non scoopable binary (when the map indicated it was the other star). Just reverted to training and got to fuel with reserves.

Great experience calling the Fuel Rats - they are fantastic and really quick.
I also got interdicted just before the station with the max allowed missions - no way was I blowing up for 2 days worth of work.

I happen to be paranoid and I always have at least the crappiest possible scoop on all my ships and I never let my fuel go below ~40%.

I did my Corvette rep grind between Sothis / Ceos in my new Cutter to get use to it. Ran out of fuel on the way back from it. Thought about going through the process of using fuel rats. Checked my credit balance and rebuy then immediately self destructed lol. Last time I can remember running out of fuel since my early days.

I played for maybe 100 hours before knowing what a fuel scoop was. Wasn't a bad experience in the bubble.. I think you might need a really low jump range as well. The best experiences were when you wanted to go a few hundred light years with 20 ish range.. it was easy to not expect to do that in one session, so you could do emergent gameplay when you stopped for fuel and it worked even.

With the whole game nerfed the goals just fall in your lap... so no windows to know for certain its not going to finish and instead enjoy the ride.

PS. Just making it by the smallest margins to not run out of fuel in my sidewinder was what got me hooked on the game. Still remember it. Never seen a gas giant before and decided to have a go. Found what i thought was the closest one, but didn't know about the line colour thing in the galaxy map. Realised i was almost out of fuel... and there were no populated stations.. barely found one... and made it to an output a huge 3000k ls away (the furtherest i had gone before was about 1200). Was so happy to make it. Yeah elite was definitely best before you knew how to win.

If you do run out of fuel, call the Fuel Rats we will do our best to help. we do not judge, there is no shame.

To call us,
  1. If you see an "Oxygen Depleted in" Timer on your canopy, log out to main menu immediately. Do this before going to the website or filling out the form. Doing so early greatly increases our chances of getting to you in time. If you don't see the timer, stay in game.
  2. Go to https://fuelrats.com and click the "Get Fuel" button, fill in a quick form (it's just cmdr name, system name that you are in, Whether or not you see the oxygen timer, and whether you are on PC/XBox, or PS4. That's it...)
  3. Then follow the directions of our dispatcher (who will coordinate your rescue).
  4. Once fuel arrives, please stay with your Rat, and communicate with him/her through the in-game chat.
We will get fuel to you as quickly as we can wherever you are (often this is just a few minutes in the bubble), and then provide simple advice on fuel management.

The Fuel Rats are great, saved my bacon more than once.. However, if I'm out in the black, with a jumbo fuel tank and giant scoop, I don't need a lecture on fuel management when I explain how and why I screwed up..
