Random goring...Elephant kills other Elephants? What causes this?

Recently, my male elephant killed one of his mates randomly. Curious as to if anyone else had this happened or what would cause this to happen. His welfare was over 90 when he decided to kill his mate of 15 years.

In a lot situations the alpha male & alpha female were in a fight in my zoos, when it was overcrowded/wrong sexratio.

I'm not sure how fast the social bar is adjusted but maybe it was solved by killing that Elephant ?

I don't get why because the only situations I would expect is the habitat too small for the amount of adults ?

The habitat is over 27,000 square meters. It’s about 7 acres. I had 3 females and one male. Hard to believe it was space or overcrowding. He was sprinting toward another female when I decided to box him.

Maybe the wellfare of the dead Elephant was very low and was picking a fight?

Tbh, most times you see an injury - the reason is pretty obvious - so i'm out of ideas.

I don’t know about elephants, but Bengal tiger couples figth and even kill their mate in the game as well as in real life sometimes, even after getting along for quite a while - for no apparent reason. Maybe this can happen with elephants as well?
