Random question about xbox transfers

I do not have a PC that can run odyssey, I do not know when I will be upgrading either.

However, I do not want to miss my opportunity to transfer my account from xbox since the time window to do so will be limited.

My question is can I install some kinda downloader on my current pc "which was state of the art in 2007" and get the account at least copied over to the PC?

Or am I screwed because I do not have a PC capable of running it and won't be getting one for at least another year?

Any advice on this issue would help even if the answer is a NO.

If this is the wrong place for this post I apologize

I'm in a similar position myself. My PC has no hope of running Odyssey and since that's the reason we're doing this in the first place I'm going to be in need of an upgrade before playing.

However, since all the cmdr is stored server side you'll be fine. It'll pretty much work in the same way as a console game you paid for online and didn't download. You still have access to it and Frontier will be keeping your data ready for when you need it.

you can always access it via base game or horizon on pc. that runs on a toaster (i sometimes start the base game on very old machines).
and if that does not work, and you purchase odyssey via steam, you can run it via ge-force now. it streams the game. it's free if you don't mind being logged out after 1 hour. i sometimes do some fc management via ge force now on my table or phone.

They are giving you a free copy of Horizons as part of the CMDR transfer/copy, not Odyssey.

To play Odyssey you will still have to purchase the DLC, or if your PC is not up to it, then just continue to play Horizons until you upgrade your PC, or look into GeForce Now (not used it so can’t comment on its performance/usability).
Also, as far as I understand, your console version of Horizon CMDR will remain so you can still play with others on console if you wish (but progress on your PC and console CMDRs will be separate and not linked)

Bottom line: you’re gaining a PC Horizons CMDR with your current progress, with the ability to upgrade to Odyssey if you wish (now or at a later date)

Pretty sure all you need is an email and commander name. Doesn't matter if your computer can run it at all. Of course, until they release details of the process no one really knows.

Yep, in theory the download should be available in the store after your transfer under the account you have with the FDEV store, it shouldn't matter when you download it or on what. I mean I am pretty sure you can download it on anything PC, I don't think the downloader checks your PC spec before downloading, you may not be able to run it is all. But you don't really need to do that as you will just need to do it all over again when you get your new PC.

Just to let you guys know, according to the stream, it will be a free copy of Beyond/Horizons when you transfer (according to the CMs), not Odyssey. Horizons/Odyssey runs on very old machines.

Min Spec
  • OS: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit
  • Processor: Quad Core CPU (4 x 2Ghz)
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 470/AMD R7 240
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 25 GB available space
So you can do the commander copy, set it up un on your old machine and then when you get the chance to get a new machine, you commander copy will be ready for you. But from that point on you have two commanders, one on PC and one on console and they're completely independent of each other.
