Random starting system?

I've been playing on and off since gamma (bought it at Alpha but not enough time) but decided to start a fresh game at launch. Then I decided I wanted a different CMDR name so I wiped yet again. To my surprise I started in the same system as before. Wiped again a dozen times and always start at the same system. I thought this was supposed to be random? Is it hard coded to my account? I'm almost sure I didn't start here the first time I played some weeks ago.

I also just noticed that although I selected Open Play at startup, when I ESC to options menu it says Current Game Mode: Solo
What the hey...??
If I hadn't noticed this and decided to take part in the race to Elite I guess I'd be disqualified without knowing it...?

Im wondering about the starting systems as well.
The one I started in (Ross 142 i think it was) and neighbouring systems is overrun by commanders! Not that I complain much about it aside from being unable to dock at certain stations at times, but the starting system seem to be selected from a small number of systems.

I am just doing the same. I have been playing since Beta and decided to restart as I wanted to take part in the challenges etc.

I have now deleted and restarted a number of time and its always the same system.

Again I'm selecting Open Play but when you go to quit it showing as Solo.....

In my case it's LHS 3447 and I've seen this system mentioned many times on the forums recently. Also the traffic report states that 36'557 ships have passed through the last 24h. Does everyone get dumped here now?

It does look like all starts are actually in the same general cluster (around LHS3447). The exact system/station is randomized, but in a narrow range around there; the start choice is also cached by the game, so to get another one, afaik you have to completely exit elite after wiping the old save, then start it up anew and only then pick a new gamestart... But I suspect that you will still be near lhs3447.

I restarted multiple times during beta and gamma and i was normally able to get a new system if I logged out for a while after deleting my save. Through most of gamma though I seemed stuck in LHS 3447, just couldn't get out of it no matter what.

I guess it makes sense from a multiplayer perspective, or testing out the servers.

LHS 3447 is a system, not a cluster, no? I always start at the exact same station (Trevithick). I also quit the game and launcher and restarted.
The Solo Game thing also persists. Shrug...

Same thing here. Tried clearing save and restarting for 3 days in a row now and I always end up in Trevithick? Where's the Randomness?

Hi Just to confirm that i also am starting every time in (Trevithick) having reset my previous start..... I wouldn't mind but there seems to be a lack of missions or items worth trading either in this port or its vicinity.....:S

I have the same problem in that I keep restarting at LHS 3447. The biggest issue I have with it is that there is no shipyard at Trevithick Dock, so I can't swap into my Eagle making it kind of pointless right now.
