Randomized starting points make it hard to group up with friends

So let's for a moment forget about the lack of grouping and co-op tools and imagine and example of two friends using team speak.

So they both start playing Elite : Dangerous and it puts them on opposites sides of the starting point galaxy.

Given the jump ranges of the sidewinder, how long do you expect them to play before they finally get to meet in space and play together?

Isn't a bit ridiculous to have a multiplayer game where you cannot even group up with your friends at the start of the game?

At least give the choice of a random start or the ability to start in the core systems.

I don't want to have to play for several hours before I can meet up with friends.

That could be by design if they don’t want a group and I don’t mean your group here but a group of prats trying to spoil people starting out in the game.

I’m sure if you all head to a point it will offset the fact that while your doing that players will be building up that play a more lone wolf game.

Why have a multiplayer game then if they don't want you to group? I mean wasn't that the point of not having an offline version?

I think groups will play a major part but they may want to stagger it to begin with populating space at the very start. Plus it probably could be abused to bring in player after player to one area before you know it a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend is all got preference to the one place.

This way the spread goes out even however they have worked it.
