I was trying to get a system to allied and shot from 50% Fed. Vice to Admiral (the rank up mission spawned fine) and even without additional Rep+++ and higher missions it still seemed to be going up way too quickly, for the mission giver and what appears to be new - the mission receiver also gives rep? Nice update.

Naturally, it would also appear that negative behaviours are punished a little drastically?

No. The system is good as it is. Nobody force you to take the ranking award, just take a different from the tree options if you like to need longer to rank up.
A 24/7 player should never forget, that thousands of casual players are in game which play only a few hours per week. Which will need much longer to rank up.
The option of the tree different rewards takes very good care to the different play styles and play times, people own.

It seems too easy to me, the excessive grind was the only thing putting me off getting ranks and now it's a few hours to vette and cutter.

Seems you can push a minor faction from neutral to allied in half a dozen missions now?

And back to hostile with very few bounties. There's quick, and there's ridiculously quick.

Having taken a few days to grind all the Upsilon Aquarii minor factions to allied back when that was a thing, and then being able to accomplish the same result in a few hours, while gaining 50% rep on the highest level superpower rank at the same time and not noticing, this is now too quick. It needs tweaking to a middle ground.

I've done most of the ED grinds the old way. The new way is a great improvement, but...
