Rank grinding, trade grinding, grinding, grinding, etc

I want a clipper so I'm grinding rank...
i want an anaconda so I'm trade grinding...
i want elite combat status so I'm grinding at a comp nav....

i here it on so many posts and wonder if people are missing the point, it's supposed to be fun isn't it? Still, everyone has their own version of fun I guess but mine isn't grinding in a game :D

Grinding is relatvie (like almost everything (ask Albert)).
Grinding begins at the point where fund ends up. So If you want to have a conda (I want it too one day.) you have to get enough credits to buy it, but its upon yours if you mean
When I can get a Conda at end of Season 4 is enough or you are to have your Conda before Christmas.
Well, if you go to work in this game there is something wrong and I suggest to think over the way you are doing.

I play for fun. I play since gamma didn't make it to Elite status or Any's right now, but I don't care I play my way and I 'grinded' to Prince ranking just by doing missions
for Empire if I liked to do that, carefully picking the missions.

So do it for fun, don' handle the game as a second job and fun will last over the grind.

Fly safe and regards,
Miklos

I was grinding combat missions yesterday to get the Sol permit before beta launches. It only took 2-3 hours, but when I got the rank I remembered that the snapshot for beta has already been taken a few weeks ago. So yes, grinding just isn't worth it :)

Grinding is something you do to yourself. Its never imposed.

Absolutely correct.

Grinding is easily avoidable but it's you who has to avoid it if you so desire, the game won't do that for you.

I disagree. Grinding is doing something you don't like doing. So don't do it and do something you enjoy doing.
.
I go when the winds take me doing what I want to at the time. I am not an Admiral nor am I Elite but I am having fun and that is why we play the game.... isn't it?

I think the point is that FDev treat Time as another resourse that you have to spend to get anything.

So many of the mechanics of the game require Time; waiting for the next allocation of Rare Goods, Super Cruising to a distant starport, searching Signal Sources (S, U, W) for Anique Artifacts etc.

Personally I'm really pleased it is that way and that players can't buy their way through the game. When I see someone with Elite rank they have my respect because I know they did it the hard way, couldn't just whip out a credit card and buy an A Spec 'Conda or what-ever.

I'm proud of the ranks I hold because I know I've earned them.

I am totally with you on this.
don't get me wrong I keep one eye on my rank percentages and get twitchy when one gets into the 90%+ range, I do smuggling and bounty hunting missions only for federation because I want the fed ranks. I can spend an hour at a comp nav getting bounties because I enjoy the fighting.

However, I draw the line at sitting in a space station for an hour stacking missions or just doing charity missions at a frequent spawning site. It seems like a hollow victory to me. But like I said, each to their own...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grinding_(video_gaming)

Grinding exists, regardless of you feeling as if you are somehow better by enjoying it and not considering it a grind. Perhaps it is a symptom of people simply playing too much and burning themselves out on the activity that they'd otherwise enjoy. It is still a reality no matter which way you try to look at it. There is simply not enough depth in the activities currently in the game to be entertaining for long periods (days, weeks, months... depends on the persons tolerance for repetition) for many people.

You somehow being on a higher plane of enjoyment, not finding it a grind and then pointing it out as it being their fault, not the game design, is just as much an annoyance as those who would constantly point out that they feel there is too much grind.

Nope, I have no higher plain just play games that I enjoy playing. All games can get repetitive, nothing you can do about it. If it does, put it down and do something else or post a thread titled 'this game has no deep content and I'm bored' or something.

Indeed, I've done plenty of putting it down and doing something else, which actually saddens the space nerd in me.

Want to get to Elite in combat faster? Grind at a conflict zone instead.
Want to make money marginally faster? Smuggle instead
want to grind faction rank faster? Can't help you, just zombie through them for days. Eventually collapse on your keyboard, get one advancement mission. Then mutter "are we there yet Braben?" as you begin the process all over again.

Such vast gameplay opportunity

but its made in a players head, So its up to the player to have fun. Maybe he/she needs to change his/her point of view for this.
Sometimes it helps.

Regards,
Miklos

It's up to developers to design a fun game. It's not up to me to simply enjoy the gameplay. That's neither here nor there though, the game can be fun, until that feeling of grind creeps back in and you need another break.

I have found the best way to not do this is to not sit in a space station for an hour stacking missions or just doing charity missions at a frequent spawning site.

But your mileage may vary :)
