Rank missions - what do they look like?

So all this time I thought progression missions were broken. But maybe I'm just seeing them.

Do they have a special name/similarity?

I'm wondering, I've got a 0 ton cargo FdL as my ship, is that why I'm not getting any progression missions?

Edit: I've never bothered with the military, because there doesn't seem any point as the missions don't get more interesting or varied. But I'm getting bored of bounty hunting so figure I might as well start progressing at some stage.

All the missions i've seen recently look like ""Federal progression" and inside they say "go to 578$^J45^*G£" and you can't pick them up. Give it a while for a fix i guess...

Ok, so it's not just that I'm not seeing them, they aren't there.

I've seen nothing that looks like that at all. Will wait for 1.3.4 then I suppose.

You have to do the regular bulletin board missions to build up your rep with the faction you want to rank with. So when in a station look at your ships faction status screen and see which ones are allied with the Empire, Federation or Alliance and just do the missions for those groups. At some point when you've done enough, you should then get a Naval progression mission in the BB screen. There seems to be a fairly big element of chance as to when you'll get one though and if you don't seem to be getting one, it's very hard to tell if you've done enough and the dice just haven't rolled in your favour yet or if you just haven't done enough to get your rep up further. The only thing you can do is keep doing more missions until one pops up. Then you might get 2 or 3 in quick succession and then a big gap again until your next one. If you want to get from zero rank to Baron or equivalent, then expect to be doing them for a fair few evenings.

Some people are saying they're bugged and never see them. I've stopped seeing Naval Ascension missions since my last rank up. I dunno if that means I'm bugged or I just need to do more work.

Well, yeah, to be honest I've not seen one since the 1.3 update, but I thought they'd fixed the ranking bugs. I'd just ranked up before 1.3 so I thought maybe I just hadn't put in enough work yet to get the next offer.

Edit: The ranking and progression thing is all a bit too vague really. We could do with a progress bar for that too.
