Newcomer / Intro Rank of Earl

Proberly not I think the different rank progressions missions are fixed so no matter where you go you will get the same type of mission... The name may be different and even the ship(s) but not the assasination mission itself...

But purhaps someone else have better news for you cmdr... ??

But you could perhaps ask someone to help you with the assasination of said General.... I helped out Cmdr Flazer once with one of his assasination mission so I know it's possible to assist someone in these missions...

anyway good luck with it cmdr and I hope you soon earn the Rank of Earl ;)

If the Naval Progression mission tells you to do an assassination, then you will have to. If you are just talking about gaining rep to be offered a Naval Progression mission then no, doing other missions to gain rep is just as good. If I remember correctly I did have to do one assassination mission on my way to Baron, but I don't know if that was just by luck of the draw or that everyone has the same missions.
You might have to just try it when it comes around, making sure you have the strongest ship you can afford with money for insurance. If it's going badly you could just run and retry. You get at least a day to complete the mission, and even if the time runs out you can keep repping up until you get offered it again.

The mission types for each level are fixed. You may be able to find someone to wing with you if it is too tough for you. A vulture should be able to do it solo, and if you can't afford a vulture, you can't afford the clipper

From memory I had to carry out 2 assassination missions on single targets i.e. take out General X and then one large scale mission to take out 7 pirates to jump the final rank to Earl. I don't think there is anyway to avoid the bloodshed.

You will need a spiffing top hat, a cane and a cloak to attain the rank of Duke of Earl:

Federation Navy rank assassination missions are Dropships

Imperial Navy rank assassination missions are Clippers

No need to take the Anaconda assassination missions from the BB

The assignation missions are not that hard TBH. The targets are rather easy to destroy. The one you are speaking off, I just hit reverse and started firing in a Cobra. Never took my shields down.

Sounds a little daft to me, but there you go.
.
I'd never have expected that to increase your rank in the Federal Navy, you would be asked to assasinate someone in a Federal Dropship. I would have thought their targets would have been the Imperial Clippers and the Imperial Navy targets would have been the Federal Dropships.

The Dropship Generals are described as having gone rogue... So you are cleaning house for the Federation. Perhaps not with an anti-aircraft gun from 30 paces though (allegedly)

Back to the OP, in order to reach Baron you need to perform one assassination (to reach Lord, if I recall)... The actual Baron mission was to carry 2t of grain from Siddha to somewhere about 5LY away, which was a bit of a let-down.

Just be aware, OP, that since 1.2 (and the mini patches) the target, on occasion can be winged up with 2 wing men, normally cobras, backing up will just get you fried. Nice work CMDR Tardis .... I chickened out and went with the cheaper Viper :D

I seen what you did there.... sorta clever... but of no use to the OP

Have a wonderful day ;)
