Rank Up Missions Empire (new player)

Probably a really stupid question but... Ive read that after an amount of time you should come across a mission that exists specifically to rank you up with a Super Power.

I've been doing nothing but Imperial missions for a week now, AFTER already being at 100% of my current, rep 0, rank. I know its rng, but I kinda thought it wouldn't take this long at the very start.

That's why I'm asking if perhaps I missed something?

They tend to pop up in solo mode more often than open i've noticed. But that could be just coincidence. Also only factions that you are friendly or allied with will offer them. Also (And i'm not saying you're doing this) A lot of people mistake the reputation bar for the rank bar. They're entirely seperate. Good luck, Commander.

As far as I know I'm not lol... but I will double check next time I get on (hopefully in a couple hours). Like I said though, ive been doing the missions for a week now.

What is meant by friendly with or allied with? I never specifically allied (is that a thing?), but I have been doing missions for every Empire related faction I can find.

For rank, you need to watch out for Naval missions that pop up. You need to run missions for Empire in a small cluster of systems, running between each other, and when you get to 100% rank (note it says rank in the right hand panel) one of the factions will start offering you a navy mission to boost your rank.

There's no worries you are missing out with ranking up if the missions don't pop up straight away. They count towards your next rank, and the numbers will adjust once you have ranked up.

But the important thing is to do missions locally, rather than wandering all over Empire space looking for them.

As you do missions for the factions, especially those that offer Rep++, you will increase in reputation with those factions, cordial, friendly and allied. I can't remember if you have to reach allied for a faction to offer you rank up missions (I think you do) but only one of the factions will offer the rank up missions once you have reached 100% in your present rank.

Again, keep working the factions in a small area, and one of the factions will reward you with the rank up mission. If you don't like the mission, another will turn up soon after.

Work in one small area instead of travening everywhere. You'll see your reputation with a faction when you're inside the mission board. That bar beneath their name is the reputation bar. You start off at neutral and need to work your way up to friendly reputation (allied is even better) before they begin to offer advancement missions.

If youre moving around seeing new factions mission boards all the time likely the naval missions are spawning with a faction rep requirement (Friendly/Allied) that you haven't reached with that faction.

Do you know what you’re looking for?
The mission title normally has ‘naval’ somewhere in the title.
Other than that it looks normal and doesn’t stand out.
When you click on it and read the description, scroll down and it’ll tell you that one of the rewards is rank progression (to whatever rank is next)

Is there a reason that a station I am allied with (its green on my radar, allied may be the wrong terminology) won't let me dock.

I know stations can be "down" or whatever, but until this morning I was still able to dock at them and turn in my mission, I just couldn't pick up more or use the base otherwise.

Weirdest thing is the first one that denied me I abandoned the mission that I needed to turn in and then it allowed me to dock..... I don't want to abandon another mission if I don't have to though.

what kind of station? outpost?
if all dock(s) are in use they can't allow you to dock
just wait a bit

WAIT, I just thought of something. I was under the impression that all stations/outposts would have small and medium docks. Is this not true? Could the ?outpost? I was attempting to dock at not have a medium sized dock?

I say outpost because I dont know what is what. Its one that looks more like a series of platforms, the docks external.

Is there a way to tell aside from eyeballing? Gonna try and look it up right now.

This is the second of two failures from this morning, the more important of the two.

If I understand the picture at the bottom correctly they have either a medium or large port. I'll log on again when I get the chance and hope that it was a 'docks full' thing.

If you look in the overview section on that eddb page, it says "Landing Pad: M" - This shows the largest pad size available at the outpost (M for Medium).

The image shows 3 landing pads (2x Small, 1x Medium).

Edit: It might be worth mentioning that outposts don't have Large landing pads - only the Coriolis, Orbis and Ocellus stations do. Planetary bases may or may not have Large pads.

If it is a NPC ship that is taking up the only medium sized pad, then request docking - if it says 'Docking Denied' then wait 30 seconds and try again. They added something a fair few patches ago (citation needed) to reduce the chance of AI controlled ships from hogging landing bays, so often requesting docking will cause a AI ship to take off from the pad.

Ah ha, you guys were right. Though, at one outpost I had to request for a little over five minutes before the damn npc would leave lol.
