Horizons Ranking System Question?.

Does anyone know how the ranking system in EDH works?. I have spent the last couple of weeks ranking up in the Federation in order to buy the Federal Corvette. I don't expect it to be easy and apart from a passenger problem where I now refuse to take Generals anywhere it has been okay. I only take 2 and three star rep missions, donations etc for Federation factions and it is going okay I suppose. My beef is that I fail to see how the scoring system works, for example this evening I finished 19 missions/donations everyone a 3 star one and at the end of it I find I have progressed 11% from 33 - 44 in the lieutenant commander rank. Now it seems to me that the donations whether you give 20k or 1million are all the same. from previous threads on ranking I gathered that 2 and 3 starred missions were the best so it would probably take forever doing it with 1 starred ones. Is there a thread or post on how these missions transmogrify into percentages, or does anyone know have any idea on how it works?.

Here's a Reddit thread where somebody collected data on rank gain from donation missions. Assuming nothing has been changed, larger donations do give more rank, but with very punishing diminishing returns.

Not sure about the star rating of missions. When I was working on Imperial rank I figured every mission was better than nothing and just took as many of them as I could.
