Horizons Ranking up discussion

I'm currently a Lord and looking to move on to Baron. I've read about every possible way to do this and have tried them all.

Some thoughts...

Donating a million credits gives a 2% rank up ... Donating 500 000 gives me the same.
Donating 25 000 gives me a one % rank up, so clearly this makes no sense at all.

A casual player wanting to do rank up without stacking has no realistic possibility of doing so ... It takes many, many hours. It's one thing to want progression to be slow but right now I think it's too slow without stacking missions and "grinding".

My own opinion is that things have been nerfed a little too much. I like playing in a realistic way and not using workarounds, but there has to be a balance if that is the way you want play vs what can be accomplished in a realistic amount of time?

What does anybody else think?

I really want to try all the ships. I have enough cash. I'm an Ensign and an Squire. I've been running missions since 2.1 (no grind, just run missions for Feds in systems where I am not allied with the local factions - my understanding is that will give you the most fed rank, not running them in places where you're allied already).

This is never going to happen. Or if it does I won't be playing ED or maybe the servers will no longer be available. Or the zombie apocalypse will have happened and the apes will have risen and the cylons will have come again.

I just want to fly the ships. Please let us get at those some other way. The only reasons I got to the ranks I have now is because of the easier ranking methods we had before. I think Tun? for Feds?

It's not like we'd get some huge advantage. These are just different ships with different roles and my understanding is that the cutter and vetter aren't very good in PVP at all. You see the video of a DBS w/torps taking out that poor vette.

Plus maintenance is a killer with the high rebuy costs (my Conda has 20 mil rebuy). That should be enough of a barrier.

Also just because I get a ship I want doesn't mean that's when I stop playing. That's when I START playing... Everything that came before was work.

I just want to be able to try them.

Maybe they could rent us the ships on a weekly basis?

I haven't paid enough attention to ranks, but I know for reputation, mission rep gain has been nerfed to irrelevance. To give you an idea... I ran missions literally all day Saturday, as I was recovering from being sick and had nothing better I could really do. In that day, I gained 3% (from 75% to 78%) Empire rep... a pitiful amount for over 12 hours of running missions, especially in the face of rep decay.

By contrast, last night I ran missions in my combat ship, and made a point of killing any pirates I met. In less than four hours, the bounties I collected on the side pushed me from 78% to 100%!

I remember when rep gain from bounty hunting was terrible and rep gain from missions was easy. I don't want to go back to that. But right now it's hilariously imbalanced in the other direction. I wonder if this is affecting rank progression as well.

Gaining a higher rank is permanent and everything but impossible. I find it "okay". One shouldn´t become King in a week. You have to gain trust...
Just look for ranking threads in the forum, or more specific: Search for HIP 10716 in the forum.

I guess some CMDRs make the mistake to accept/stack missions from local factions who are in rivalry with the Empire related factions. It´s a guess, I am not sure, but it works fine for me to not accept missions except from Empire alligned factions. (I can´t say anything about CZs)

Same goes for the Federation ... but who wants that? :D
