Ranking up empire/federation worth it before Powerplay update?

Anyone who played the Powerplay beta can answer this:

I was wondering if it is worth it to rank up in empire/ federation ranks before the release of the powerplay update. I'm afraid that after the update it will be more difficult to rank up on both sides. But currently the process of doing tiny missions is frankly a pita (not swearing, i mean the pita sandwich).

The entire mission system is getting a revamp so it could potentially be easier to gain ranks in either of those factions.

I'd say go for it. It's currently pretty easy, based on the mission revamp and faction specific weapons, I'm guessing it'll be harder to advance in the future. Since I doubt they'll take anyone's rank away, might as well lock it in while it's relatively easy.

This is all speculation of course.

I think that's a valid question. I've been trying to get a few ranks and permits prior to the next update, to avoid the whole treachery mechanism, whatever it may be.

I would. The current system is quite easy, new ones will be harder because if it's easier it will be well.... stupid.

I would wait for the new one if I had not ranked up in the old one. Just to see if it is better. And it must be, if it has changed at all. ;)

Thanks all. Any Frontier Dev who's willing to comment? I hope we'll still be able to rank up on both/ all sides. Currently my time is quite limited and I have to choose between the community goals (which I like) and ranking up (which I don't like, but which MIGHT be necessary if you want ranks on both sides).

You can always defect.
My plan at the moment is based around ranking in one faction to buy all their ships before defecting like the traitor I am to get the other factions ships.

Hold on though because I will betray them too in order to live the life of a rogue despising all factions and their petty wars :p
If I don't get blasted into a million pieces in the meantime that is...
