Ranking up, how much are the REP/ INF reward checks worth?

I realize this is a noobish question but please bear with me. Am presently Empire ranking via transportation missions and am trying to figure out how much the REP reward checks are worth. I understand it's not one-to-one transaction but does anyone know the equation, REP check reward = how many ranking points ?

There was a diminishing return the further you got. That is, a 5 + mission got you a lot more at early levels than at Duke or Prince.

It worked a lot like other ranks.

Make no mistake, that last rank or two will cause your soul weep..
