Ranking Up in the Federation... Bugged?

Sorry if this is the 284,382,699th post about this, but Google has failed me, because...we there are too many posts about ranking up, since the dawn of the game. Lol

Anyhoo, I'm at Lieutenant, 55%.
Looking to get to the rank for the Corvette, some time this decade.

I'm currently out at Sothis and Ceos, as I heard it's the place to be to rank up with the federation.
Anyway, I've done about 30 missions for the federation, most just data deliveries, and some salvage work. But my rank has only gone up to Lieutenant 56%.
This was 2 hours pure mission grind.
But it feels awfully slow.

Not complaining, I'm mostly here for a quick cash injection anyway. I just hoped I'd rank up some more before i leave.

Am I doing something wrong?

There is only 1 fed in Sothis did you stack 20 missions for them only? That means logging in etc until you have 20 only for them, it should get you 20% increase. At some point missions turn to 1% each i do not know what rank that is.

/Also get allied with Sirius whilst there, it will help later.

Sry that i have to say this but....
It's working like intended :(

Posted this elsewhere, this is how I got the Corvette.

Note: It took a long time and I like the travelling/fighting part of the game, the below was done in a Conda with 40LY range and explosive MC.

I enjoyed the below even it took a while. I am now doing similiar for the Cutter :D

3 things I did to speed it up.

Tun Tuns Wart only take data missions. Every faction at that station is Fed so 20 missions = 20% Then head down to below.

Sothis/Ceos Data missions between each other 20 = 20% Only do it for the feds (and sirius cos that will work in your favour). Then fill up with trading missions for the money you will need for below.

17 Draconis a system with donation missions 5 fed factions there, 50 million will get you 100% then it switches to Conflict zone missions, I would stack the ones that only had 20 kills.

Then head back to Tun and repeat, all in all around 1,000 missions to get the Corvette.

Was aiming for 60% per day and trying to do all of the above in under 2 hours of super fun happy gaming time.

Is that 1% only at lieutenant or is the rate of progression the same at each rank? I'm also at Tun and also putting in a concerted Fed ranking effort.

I reckon (open to correction here) that the 1% kicks in Chief Petty Officer on Fed side and Knight on Empire.

On the donation missions I found that the small ones added up so maybe 5 100k missions = 1% bt they do add up.

I have no idea when the 1%/Mission kicks in, but it's Prior to Earl rank (I ranked to Earl long before Horizons). However my experience with Empire Rank progressions since Horizons/Engineers using data delivery missions in a 1 hop route with max missions (20):

Always take the controlling factions missions, ignore the other factions (Unless your yet to become Allied to the Empire/Federation - being allied increases you to the max rep modifier).
Mission Rank: always go for Elite or the highest level of missions avaiable to you and cycle for a full hold of these missions.
Never take anything less than your current Elite Trade Rank always go for maximum available mission rank - you will get next to zero rep for taking missions at a lower rank than your own.
Always sell any comodities gained prior to jumping stations/systems - the less time you waste get interdicted the more time your making rep.

Earl >> Marquis is 10% per round trip (0.5% per mission) carrying max rated missions at 100% Allied.

After Marquis you have your work cut out.

Marquis >> Prince is max 7% per round trip (0.35% per mission) carrying max rated missions at 100% Allied.

I'm a few loops from popping the Prince rank and the grind is real, but sod it I'm going to keep going till I've maxed out on King.
In hindsight I really wish I maxed faction ranking before Horizons :D

I just completed my promotion to Rear Admiral. The Corvette looks nice parked next to my Cutter. I don't own an Anaconda, never have... that's for peasant trash to travel about in.
.
You can try 17 Draconis. I ran dry for me, and I had to do the last 2 ranks purely at TUN. The last rank ( Post Captain to Rear Admiral ) ran 4 delivery missions to 1%. Previous ranks were not that bad, maybe 3.5 or so per 1% for Post commander to Post Captain. I tried every other place.
.
Ceos/Sothis : There were not enough Fed factions there to make it worth your time. Mode switching helped, but it took longer to get to the magic 20 data delivery missions between Ceos and Sothis. Just doing the short data delivery missions was pretty lucrative and I made loads of money, but not much rank.
.
17 Draconis : While the donation missions were there, it certainly speeded things up. But they ran dry ( for me, at any rate ). I was able to pick up 7-10 per mode switch, and that was limiting myself to 200k and under at the start. Then, 'poof', and it was maybe 1 or 2. I had loads of cash ( billions, in fact ), but it wasn't worth the time and mode switching for 1 or 2 missions. There weren't many delivery missions, since it's pretty much in the middle of no-where. It's donations or nothing, and once I did the time versus rank percentage gained math...
.
Taribes : Better than the last two systems, but the delivery ranges were a bit far. An Asp outfitted as an explorer makes this a bit better as long as you have some shields. Lots of missions, but one or two jumps between them took more time than... Tun.
.
Tun : It was miserable. Hated every second. I ran ( by my numbers ) over 700 missions out of that port. I made decent money, but spent it on every donation mission I could find, even the 1 million credit ones. The only saving grace, was that by the end I knew my 'route', and would hit the mission board on every system picking up delivery missions for other systems on the route. I got 7-10% per complete run this way. About 2 weeks, spending 3 hours a night, for my last two ranks. That was as efficient and 'fast' as I could get it. I would have GLADLY spent 200 million credits at 17 Draconis to avoid that last rank.
.
All that being said ( or typed ), I don't believe there is such a thing as 'fast' ranking any more. Unless maybe 17 Draconis starts handing out donation missions again. It also seemed to me, that the mission board didn't refresh like it did several weeks ago. Private group and Open were usually identical so mode switching didn't help there. Solo was always different. BUT, it seemed that there was no way to force a refresh of the board with all new missions in Solo or Private/Open. I even tried completely logging out and starting the game from my PC's desktop. The only thing that seemed to work was waiting for the 10 minute timer to expire while waiting at the main menu. Then you could re-log, mode switch Solo/Private/Open, exit to the main menu, and wait out the 10 minute timer again. Time spent waiting for this to happen greatly affected my 3 hours a night.
.
Doing the low levels, Ensign and below should be fairly quick at Tun. But, as most things in ED, the closer you get to the top, the harder it is. 400 missions for the last rank seems excessive, and it is. You should also note that if you aspire to a Corvette/Cutter, that grind is just the first step. Both those ships will EASILY run you north of 500 million credits to outfit, and that doesn't not include engineers mods. So rank will get you NOTHING if you don't have a billion in the bank.

There's a way to duplicate Donation Missions indefinitely. Without mode switching. Works at any station but best at a station that offers a decent amount of donation missions. For instance :
Federation : 17 Draconis
Empire : HIP 10716

Steps:
1. Get 20 missions at any station that you do not intend to complete.
2. Go to 17 Draconis / HIP 10716. Mode switch until you find about 3 donation missions below 200k. These are 25k, 50k, 125k, 200k. If you really wanna throw cash away get the more expensive ones. But they all provide about same rank% so it is really a waste. It won't really speed up the process either.
3. If you found X donations missions, go ahead and delete X missions from your Transaction window.
4. Then proceed to take those X donation missions. Do not complete the donations yet. You now have 20 missions stacked again.
5. Try and take a 21st mission from the board. Board will reply no. Too many missions.
6. Go ahead and turn in your X donations now.
7. Try and take a new mission from same board. Board will reply no. Mission list is not valid and needs update. Let it update. The X donation missions you just completed are back.
8. Go to step 4.

This method is vastly superior to any other current method since you have no board bouncing (except the initial one but then you are set for a long as you aren't bored). No travel time either, you are sitting at the station. No cargo required, you can come with your boosted ASP.

Final note : This will most likely make you hate the game. You will ask yourself if it was really worth it once seated in your corvette/cutter. Answer is no.

Have been grinding at Sothis/Ceos, but as they just dropped out of boom, the data missions are now rarer than rockinghorse doodoo. May have to go back to Tun.

I tried this once or twice, and it worked for a little bit. I could do it for maybe 15 or 20 times, but eventually it would boot me from the board. My numbers showed it was 3.xx donation missions per 1% ( slightly better than data delivery ) once you got the missions you wanted. This REALLY seemed like cheating or an exploit to me. Running outrageously profitable missions out of Aditi or Sothis is one thing. Even the folks in the very early game who discovered they could buy 10% discounted ships/modules in one spot, and then sell them for full price somewhere else ( wash/rinse/repeat on a fully A spec'd Anaconda = $$$$ ) were using in game mechanics. Making use of an error/bug in the message board is another. I can't condone people who do this, but knowing how long I spent grinding rank, and the massive frustration I felt doing it, I won't condemn either.
.
In the end, I decided that it was a better idea to just run missions.

Well i logged in his morning an my rank had jumped to 63%.
Lol

Still very slow, but atleast it worked a bit.

This Sothis / Ceos thing isn't as good as I thought so I'm gonna head back to civilisation on Monday. Lol

Here's how I did it. Yes it takes time. It's not a fast process, but it is doable.

You are doing it right. Sometimes it takes a bit for rank to refresh so maybe that is why you only got 1% for 30 missions. At rank of Lt, you should get about 20% for that if not maybe even more.

If it really stayed at 1% you might consider that you did something wrong or a bug happened which is unlikely for 30 missions. Remember to only take missions from the dude\dudess with Federation icon. Others who do not have the icon will not give you ANY %.

I am at Rear Admiral and after running about 10 or so missions for commodities\mats I went from 11% to 16% so you should get a clear 1% for every Federation mission at Lt.

Think of the sum total of ranks you have achieved so far as being about half of what you need to reach the next rank. That's right, each rank seems to take twice as much effort as the previous one. Not so noticeable in the lower ranks but once you get up where the air is thin . . .

Is it just me or has 17 draconis just dried up?.... no missions listed at all for any party!.. numerous refreshes / menu hops/ 10 minute waits!?

Any other good federation suggestions.... have been doing missions at tun and Sothis so far.

Thanks guys

The station is on lock down, so I guess that is why no missions.
