Ranking up in the Navies post 2.1

Hello, this isn't a thread for myself but more for a friend who doesn't have a frontier account.

He's been trying to rank up in either navy now for a few days and after his first rank in each he cannot seem to find any specific missions for ranking up. I've had my own search on the forums for info for him but I can't turn up anything solid so I figured I'd ask.

All advice and help is appreciated, thank you.

To rank up in a Navy, follow this guild.

Step 1) Locate a minor faction who's allegiance is to the Superpower you want to gain rank with.

All minor factions in a system are local governments who pledge allegiances to one of the three superpowers or is independent.

Step 2) Perform missions for the faction.

This has the added effect of increasing your reputation for the Superpower in question which will give you access to Naval Opportunities.

Step 3) See Step 1

Of course not all factions are going to give you the opportunity. Only those who are allied with the Superpower in question are authorized by the Faction Navy to offer these missions.

Step 4) Look for missions from the minor faction who's title contain "Naval Progression Opportunity"

This will only happen when your rank meter reaches 100%. It may take a few refreshes for it to pop up. It may only pop up in factions you have a higher reputation with.

Step 5) Profit.

Rinse and repeat.

So i assume that you two know how to get the military rank progression bar to 100%.

Because rounding when the bar say its 100% it can be anything between 99.5% and 100% but mission won't spawn until its 100%. So i always do couple missions more just to be sure that its over 100%. You don't waste time etc. if you over do because extra rep gets moved to progression for next rank. With low ranks this doesn't happen often but on higher military ranks it does happen.

After 2.1 rank up mission is harder to spot and it feel it spawn less often when you can get one.

It can be under any Empire faction in system so if there is 4 it can be under any of those four. And if i remember right it doesn't have its own icon any more it just say something related. Its similar to engineer invitation missions if you have done any of those.

Also some faction states might make it impossible to get rank up mission from that faction or in that system when state is in effect, but this is not confirmed.

Once you have done everything Adhock has said you may want to start logging in and out at the station where you have all the alliances for that Navy maxed out.
- That is, when you reach 100% with that Rank go to the station you've been doing all the Data Deliveries with. It should be the station where you have 100% reputation with everyone.
- Next start logging in and out to get the rank up mission: I'm not kidding. The missions are not well done. I spent several months trying to get one to actually show up on the board doing missions. Logging in and out I got it within a few hours.
Otherwise you can spend days or weeks waiting for the mission to come.
- this part of the game is just broken

For example:
A friend and I did the Imperial Ranks together. I was far, far behind him. Eventually I caught up because the RNG decided to hate on him for a awhile. Even on the same night when we were both at 100% I ended up getting an imperial rank up mission within a couple minutes of handing in my data. He spent all night flying around between systems to finally come back to the one I was in and logged in/out a few times to make it stop wasting his time. It still took most of his evening the night before and then some into the following afternoon.

Wu Guinagi is a reliable source for Imperial Missions. I am not sure about Federation.

Try Fehu, there's virtually nothing but Imperial Charity missions there - just keep doing those.
It'll cost a few credits but the credits spent can be re-earned quickly and it's far quicker then spending time ranking the "normal" way.

thanks :)

just got there. bit more expensive than pre 2.1 but missions are there.

Also keep in mind that the progression missions generally aren't listed as "Naval Progression Opportunity" anymore. Usually they're something more descriptive of the mission, like "Transport x for Imperial Navy" or the like. They'll say the name of the group you're ranking up in, but not as obviously as before. Also, they can often be hidden in the unavailable missions, either due to not high enough rep with the minor faction, or because you don't have a big enough cargo hold. As someone said above, do another mission or two once you hit 100% to make sure it's not rounding up, then just keep relogging at a station that has some minor factions you're friendly or allied with until one pops up.
