Ranking up.....Sigh.....

Okay, so I'm knocking around Empire space, trying to rank up to Baron to get my discounted Imperial Courier.....

I ranked up to Knight on Friday night, I'm Allied with the Empire and a few local factions, doing charity missions to up my reputation. But can I get a Naval Promotion mission at the moment, nope.

Getting a little frustrated at the random nature of this tbh.....

Any tips, things I've missed? (not far from Cemies)

Keep moving about is supposedly the key. Go to an Imperial system where you haven't been before, pick an Imperial faction and then do BB missions for them until you get an advancement mission. Missions where you donate stuff to the faction are best.

Once you've ranked up move to a new system and new faction and repeat.

Stuff like bounty hunting or selling exploration data will help you increase your reputation with a faction but doesn't seem to help with ranking missions

Cheers, I'll move maybe Achenar way.....sigh.

Once I get the Courier, I'll probably park the game until 1.3 comes out.

As someone who has really been there I feel your pain.

On that note, I did find that i managed to get much faster rep by bounty hunting in res sites rather than missions.

I can sympathise with this! I decided that, as I've had a fair bit of free time this week, I would try and level up from scratch to be able to buy a Clipper at the discounted price. I have seen one solitary progression mission - but it gets worse.

I saw that mission as I docked prior to going to bed. I did not have the energy to complete the mission but was happy, thinking a similar mission would be there when I next logged on.

It wasn't :(

I've been trying to rank up for exactly the same reasons but I cannot find any rank progression missions at all .. are there any hard fast rules to follow to increase your chances of finding the missions? (like type of station, system or anything like that)

Well, if it helps I'm an Earl in the Empire and Post Commander in the Federation so it is possible. Just keep doing the courier and collection missions for the local factions and it'll come. It shouldn't take too long to get to Baron. As you collect a missions to deliver some cargo to the next system, take their missions etc and you'll cover a load of systems. Just write down what cargo goes where as you'll have a load running concurrently.

I also did a load of assassination missions too, they were at least a bit more interesting!

When the community goal in Nu started I had no rank at all with the Empire.
Made Baron in a few days, just by doing fetch/delivery quests.
Every time I ranked up I moved a couple of jumps away, or to the system I'd just gained a permit for (eg. got Baron rank at a system next door to Summerland) and took on several missions at once.

I don't know if doing delivery missions ranks you up slower or faster than assassinations... for me it was quicker because my Vulture was many light years away, and also I could take on more delivery missions at the same time (usually three on the go at once, and complete relatively quickly)


Now I have the rank and Clipper, I'm working on losing my Empire rep as quickly as I can :)

Just keep at it. Having made it to "Earl" myself, I used my time to establish really good trade routes and making sure I picked up every rep. gain mission available. Eventually this will happen... at the time though, I did not know that "Earl" was the top rank in Empire. I though I was going to be the new Emperor! I found out all too quickly that completing one of these missions was all that was counted.

Once you turn in any one of these missions, you receive the rank progression reward. Then the others are just plane assassination missions with no rank progression. Even after I ranked up, these would still be available at the other starports. I had been helping many smaller factions at the time, so at first I wasn't sure what to think.
